LIHU‘E — “Paul was one of those people that you loved instantly, his huge heart and charisma lit up a room,” long-time friend Karina Duffy remembered.
On Feb. 6, 2020, Paul Christie was found dead in Moloa‘a in bushes along the side of Kuhio Highway. An autopsy report revealed his injuries were consistent with a homicide.
On the eve of the year anniversary of this discovery, the Kaua‘i Police Department has asked for the public’s help in sharing information relating to the open second-degree-murder case.
“Again, we want to extend our deepest sympathies to the friends and family of the victim,” said KPD’s Investigative Services Bureau Assistant Chief Bryson Ponce in a statement. “Our detectives have been working diligently to solve this case over the past year.”
Duffy met Christie nearly 30 years ago, when they both lived in England, and Christie joined her on a trip to Kaua‘i in the early 2000s while she worked on a documentary here. At the height of his own career, Christie, an audio engineer, worked for the likes of Jay Leno, Michael Jackson and more celebrities, Duffy said.
“I have no reason to believe that he should have enemies,” said Duffy, who now lives in California. “This is why it’s such a mystery that a loving person like this was murdered in such a brutal way.”
Christie was last seen alive on Feb. 4, 2020, at the Princeville Shopping Center, where he worked at Piazza as a dishwasher. KPD believes Christie was heading toward Lihu‘e in his final days.
Christie did not have a known permanent address, but lived in Princeville. Duffy said that, according to friends, Christie had been traveling around the island on foot.
“In order to continue our progress, we ask that anyone with information regarding this incident to please come forward so that we can bring justice to the victim and his family,” Ponce said in a statement.
The public is urged to call Ponce at 241-1681 or KPD dispatch at 241-1711. Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers Kaua‘i at 246-8300 or cskauai.org.
“Paul Christie was a beautiful soul,” said Duffy.

Why so many unsolved murders on Kauai? Small island, is KPD inept, or are we seeing institutional racism here? I guarantee if was locals was murdered, case would be solved already.
Because the murder victims are not local, even the Kealia lady, she was haole. KPD is inept or doesn’t care about solving these crimes.
Tired of hearing about how racism permeates American society, but nobody like talk about the rampant racism in Hawaii towards haoles and other mainlanders.
KPD could solve a murder if someone had provided all the information that they needed.
They are more likely to cover up murders than solve them.
Kauai serial killer.
Lauren Kagawa’s murder made to look like an unattended death.
Several murders made to look like suicides:
Austin Baretto
Josh Josiah
Negligent homicide by a kpd officer that was covered up with a state expert witness manipulating the juror to believe the going over 70-100 mph is the same as going 25 mph.
Mysterious disappearances of people:
Napoleon Ray
And many more…
Don’t forget about those who set up Aurero Moore’s murder.
Are they the same who killed Alves niece?
Too many public corruption within kpd to solve a murder. Too many cover ups.
…and Lacey Woolsey, a four year old child raped/murdered, the Wrong brother was blamed. Read book written by Benish “the Fifth Seal”, which outlines pertinent information about Lacey’s murder and other Kauai victims to the likes of RUKM “lawyers” including laundering a trust fund and many other serious, mysterious circumstances in this same book! Might be helpful to get a well-rounded version read, KPD Blue, Superferry Chronicles, Sunny Skies Shady Characters, Hell-Bent, and a whole lot a “guilty kealoha stolen mailbox fraud” as judicio-media opined!”
Come-on Man!!!!
Kpd is more likely to set up a murder than solve one.
they’ve leaked information to criminals to retaliate for their abuses of power and they retaliate with mob jobs with the mma schools as their muscle and several fighters as their slaves and they will try to murder you at anahola beach and kokee and wailua homesteads.
It’s real don’t let them fool you. There’s too many old guard dogs and ties to the syndicate mafia that has infiltrated kpd and other departments and judges.
KPD Blue and sunny skies are real.
ON-point! Good call! CONcur!
Sooo, wait a whole year to give information on a murder…?
Why was this not reported a year ago?! Why was the public not informed a year ago…?! I vaguely remember a story about a body being found in the bushes, but never any follow up, never any information that it was even a homicide!! And please, no BS about it being an ongoing investigation so no info could be given. Total BS.
KPD proves time and time again that they are incompetent at solving these kinds of crimes. Either that, or there is some force at work keeping crimes like this hushed up and unsolved…
Chief, this is NOT ok!!! Kauai has too many “unsolved” murders! You NEED to do something about this!! Reach out to the FBI if necessary!!
Maybe re-investigate with a fresh pair of eyes, and new personnel and leadership would improve KPD Investigations.
