William ‘Eli’ Brede Jr.
William “Eli” Brede Jr., a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War, passed away at Garden Island Healthcare & Rehabilitation in Lihu‘e on Jan. 16, 2021, at the age of 86.
Born on Aug. 14, 1934 in Honolulu, he was a manager for Big Three Industries.
He was preceded in death by parents Julia and William Brede Sr., first wife Juliette Brede, sister Julia “Ulu” Kauwe, brother Paul Brede Sr., sons William Brede III and Gilmath Brede, and daughter Debbie Balai.
He is survived by wife Helen Kon Brede, brother Lono (Laverne) Brede, daughter Julieann “Tweety” (Gilbert) Balai, son Shane (Sue) Brede, sisters Mary (Ben) Aranio, Hazel Aki, stepdaughters Helen (Bobby) “Sweetie” Azevedo, Maryalice “Momi” Furtado, Lavern Sa and Leona (Robert) Sa-McDermott, 20 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be Friday, Feb. 12, at the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kapa‘a, with visitation at 10 a.m. and services at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.

Magdalena ‘Maggie’ Patricia Tremaine
9/6/1942 – 1/20/2021
With great sadness we announce the unexpected passing of our mother, Magdalena “Maggie” Tremaine, 78, of Lihu‘e.
She was born in Honolulu and moved to Kaua‘i in the 1960s. She was an avid golfer and bowler. She was a member of the Mokihana Bowling League and a member of the Fil/Am Golf Club on Kaua‘i.
She loved sports, and encouraged her children and grandchildren to participate in school sports. She was mostly known for her generosity and hospitality for her family, friends and acquaintances.
Her personality was reflected in her beautiful smile. She worked as a bartender for the old Kaua‘i Surf Hotel for decades. Her last job was working for the County of Kaua‘i driving the Handi-Van.
She was preceded in death by husband John K. Tremaine Jr. and brothers and sisters Carole Mole, William Cabus, Lucio Cabus Jr. and Irma Tam.
She is survived by brother Phillip Tam, children Victoria Ann (Amos) Tamura, Clayton Paul (Mary Ann) delos Santos, Brenda (Eddie) Viernes, Karen delos Santos, Nadine (Solomon) Tam-Ito, Rochelle (Barry) Stark-White, Edward (Sandra) Kanda Jr. and Roxanne (Keoki) Palau, 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She passed away peacefully at Pali Momi Medical Center on Jan. 20, 2021, with daughter Victoria by her side. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten as a pillar of our ‘ohana.
Services will be provided by Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, 4716 Ma‘alo Rd., Lihu‘e, with viewing Saturday, Feb. 13 from 10 a.m. to noon, with burial to follow at 1 p.m. at the Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery, 4331 Lele Rd., Hanapepe, HI 96716.
The family requests semiformal attire. Due to COVID-19, safe distancing will be observed and coordinated by the staff of Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.

Howard Kalani Frasco
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Howard Kalani Frasco. At 50, he passed peacefully at Straub Hospital in Honolulu on Dec. 10, 2020. He was surrounded by his wife Kim, son Bradley, and daughters Brooke, Hallie, Khloe and Mehana, along with his mom Barbara Frasco, brothers Herbie and Brandon, and in-laws Buddie and Gail Ayudan.
He was also surrounded in spirit, thoughts and prayers by many of his ‘ohana and friends.
He was born in Waimea on Nov. 3, 1970 to the late Herbert (Chico) and Barbara Frasco, and was the second of four children. He was a proud graduate of Kekaha School, Waimea Canyon and Waimea High School’s Class of 1988.
He ventured to Universal Technical Institute in Phoenix, where he earned his HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) certification. He worked in the engineering department for Westin Kaua‘i as well as R-Electric before moving to Hilo to follow his true love. There he worked at Suisan Company, Ltd.
After returning to Kaua‘i, he worked in the engineering department at Kaua‘i Marriott Resort & Beach Club and Lawa‘i Beach Resort. He also worked for Honeywell and Sears Appliance. He was employed and later became franchise owner of Mr. Appliance Kaua‘i for 10 years, and most recently the owner of Makana Appliance Repair.
He was a man who loved his family most of all, and would do anything for them. Family and friends described him as kind-hearted, fun-loving and full of aloha. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, being a forever Raiders fan, and a proud hula husband and dad. He was often seen on the field coaching youth baseball for Kekaha, Hanapepe and Hilo, as well as for Kekaha Pop Warner Football Association and girls youth softball.
He was preceded in death by dad Chico, grandparents Sebiro Frasco, Louise (Kaulukou) and Phillip Aguilar, and grandparents Damiano and Akala (Ho‘opi‘i) Lazaro.
He is survived by wife Kimberly (Ayudan) Frasco, son Bradley (Kaiemi Moniz), daughters Brooke, Hallie, Khloe and Mehana, mother Barbara (Lazaro) Frasco, siblings Herbie, Barbie Jo and Brandon (Angela), in-laws Buddie and Gail Ayudan, Buddy and Mel Ayudan and Chelsie and John Ruiz, and numerous uncles, aunties, cousins, nephews and nieces.
A celebration of life, public drive-by visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Kekaha Neighborhood Center, beginning at 4 pm. Drive-In and live-stream virtual service to follow from 6 to 7 p.m. Start on Kekaha Road, turn left on Amakihi Road and continue to the Kekaha Neighborhood Center gate entrance. Please remain in vehicles. All pandemic rules will be in full effect. Social distancing and masks are required. Nu‘uanu Memorial Park & Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Selden Burtch
Selden Burtch passed away on Jan. 27, 2021, at the age of 96. He was born on March 15, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a heavy equipment operator.
He was preceded in death by parents Joel and Arloine Selden Burtch.
He is survived by wife Barbara Ellacott Burtch, and nieces Trudy (Bob) Miller of Ganesville, Georgia, and Tricia (Fred) Pfaff of Chagrin Fall, Ohio.
Private services will be held at a later date.

Vincent ‘Slinko’ G. Boiser Sr.
Vincent “Slinko” G. Boiser Sr., 72, of Kapa‘a, passed away on Jan. 25, 2021, at home. He was born in Kapaia on April 16, 1948. He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War and retired as a custodian from the U.S. Postal Service Lihu‘e post office.
He was preceded in death by parents George and Theresa Boiser, son Edward Kalani Bactad, sister Marveline Relacion and Yvonne Kaialoa.
He is survived by sons Vincent (Chelsea) G. Boiser Jr. and Albert (Mahina) Bactad, daughters Chelsie (Michael) Canha, Cashie (Eric) Boiser and Ella (El) Ramelb, sister Georgiana (Terry) Boiser-Nunes, brother Gilbert Funes, grandchildren Charles, Bradley, Cherrilynn and Samantha Coloma, Austin Pongasi, Trysten Bactad, Jadelynn Manzano, Mandee, Mia, Nanea, A.J., Maluhia, Halia, Kahiau, Keanu Bactad, Nakoa, Bryden and Qyrin Ibaan, Kana‘i Bactad, Jaesha and Jonathon Canha, Vyka and Legend Boiser and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, Feb. 27, at Immaculate Conception Church, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. and Mass to follow at 10 a.m.

Verna Mae Kaulili
Verna Mae Kaulili passed away on Jan. 29, 2021, at the age of 66, at her residence in Po‘ipu.
She was born on March 28, 1954, in Lihu‘e. She was a store clerk.
She was preceded in death by father Samuel Vegas and sister Angela Vegas.
She is survived by husband Springwater Kaulili Sr. of Koloa, sons Springwater (Wainani) Kaulili Jr. of Koloa and Tyrel Kaulili of Koloa, daughter Michele Kaulili-Allianic of Koloa, grandchildren Alyssa Francisco, Teighler Kaulili, Sionie Taniguchi-Harris, Zaysha Kaulili and Springwater Kala‘iwai Kaulili, mother Rose Santiago of Hanama‘ulu, brothers Sam (Sandra) Vegas of Maui and Darren (Liana) Vegas of Lawa‘i, and sister Norma (Gilbert Sr.) Serraon of Koloa, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services were held.

Inocencio Calvan Sagucio
Inocencio Calvan Sagucio, 83, of ‘Ele‘ele, died peacefully at his home on Jan. 28, 2021. He was an animal lover, a tireless organizer within the small Ilocano community of Kaumakani, a father figure to many, and a brave spider-squisher and cockroach-combatant (much to his children’s relief).
He was born on Jan. 24, 1938, in Bangui, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, and graduated from Laoag Trade College as a carpenter. He immigrated to Hawai‘i in 1966, thus paving the way to a better life for his wife, his children and innumerable others. He retired as a senior mill tender at ‘Olokele Sugar Company.
He was preceded in death and is now reunited with his parents Pedro and Catalina Sagucio, father-in-law Eugenio Papa, and aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Estrella (“Terry”) Sagucio, grateful children Marilyn (Shane) Davis of Roseville, California, and Richard (Arlene) Sagucio of ‘Ele‘ele, and one doted-upon grandchild, Ryder Sagucio of ‘Ele‘ele, brothers Nemesio (Aurea) Sagucio and Alfonso (Leticia) Sagucio, numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death and is now reunited with his parents, Pedro and Catalina Sagucio, his father-in-law Eugenio Papa, and his aunts and uncles.
A private service will be held at a later date.
