LIHU‘E — The Hawai‘i State Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office reported one new case of COVID-19 on Wednesday.
Wednesday’s case is an adult visitor whose source of infection is related to mainland travel. This case took a pre-test in his state of residency, but results were reported after arrival on Kaua‘i. All active cases are in isolation. Close contacts are being identified, directed to quarantine and offered testing.
This case brings the number of active cases to three, with 208 cumulative cases. Kaua‘i’s cumulative case count includes 177 confirmed locally, one probable, and 30 positive cases diagnosed elsewhere, as they received their pre-travel test results after arriving on island.

I don’t understand why they allow people to travel even though they do not have their test results? Couldn’t they be infecting everyone on the flight?
About Wednesday’s new case, it was a visitor who tested on the mainland but the results weren’t in till he was where on Kauai? In his 3 day quarantine I hope. Or had he he already spent a few days on another island spreading it? Shouldn’t we be given more info on stories like this?
Also of concern are people on his flights and airports. Preferably no flights unless results are in first. But we are doing very well, case wise, and it’s encouraging especially with the potential for other variants
The answer to all of Kauai’s problems related to Covid are all right here in this article’s keywords: “Visitor”, “Travel”, “Mainland”, and “False-negative pre-tests”.
Reduce or eliminate these things from the equation, and Kauai can rebound from its current surge of Covid cases.
It’s very easy to do. All it will require is Mayor Kawakami caring more about the health and well-being of his constituents and less about the donations being made to him by Big Tourism.
That is still a lot. They would be happy if the whole Kaua’i was a quarantine area. And no worries. Just regular. But this is not the case. Wearing a face mask is a must. This would be the ideal setup. Kaua’i is a quarantine area. Not just a building. Less activity with only 70,000 people on the island. They’re shooting for this to be the herd immunity. Make this happen. Kaua’i. ??
The airlines should be required to check test results prior to boarding the last leg of travel to the island. It is a requirement to have a negative test result, but if airlines are not checking, then an infected person could easily enter. Getting test results on the mainland is super confusing – and that will lead to passengers breaking rules. Further airlines could be further required to do an approved test for all passengers at the airport. Just include it in the price of the ticket.
