Happy birthday, Averie Soto.
FM97’s Ron Wood of the Aloha Kia Lihu‘e A’s senior softball club announced Monday that several senior league games were rained out in Wailua Houselots Saturday.
Where did this weather come from? Wayne Medeiros wanted to know as he squeegeed the water from the Monday-morning rains at the Kukui Grove Center food court, where Tommy Rita was not available to talk about Super Bowl LV with Henry Rabot, Dennis Apilado, Pat “Skippah” Caycayon and Marvin Bargayo (he moved to ‘Ai‘ea High School following his freshman year at Kaua‘i High School, Tom Shigemoto), who found the food court a perfect place to get out of the rain, and Bob and Lenore Klass (haven’t seen them for quite a while) couldn’t find an open, convenient, handicapped parking stall.
The rains may slow down a bit for Wednesday and beyond, but the winds are continuing through the week, when we’re supposed to have the first of three Sanctuary Ocean Counts (nope, no whales at Ahukini Sunday where Jessica Angala — remember her from the mayor’s track meet when she beat Kawehi Louis-Diamond in a dash event? — wasn’t looking for whales, but just enjoying the ocean between landscaping job (yes, the sun was out Sunday).
Pastor John Cabello might have been cooking for the teachers at Kaua‘i High School Monday, but will be free Saturday when New Hope Lihu‘e hosts its grocery giveaway from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center in Lihu‘e.
Jean Souza was in the wrong farmers’ market for chocolate persimmons being vended by Isobel Storch and Lanipu Farms. It’s Wednesday at the farmers’ market at The Shops at Kukui‘ula, near the Tommy Bahama outlet.
Lin Farm is also at the Kukui‘ula marketplace, and maybe she’ll have some of that papaya lilikoi that drew a lot of looks and sales at the Pau Hana Market (Petronela Hendricks discovered this “new” change on returning from her two-week trip to visit family) at Kukui Grove Center. Risa Clemmons also got wiped out of her garlic greens, and Mayette Loseto said “there’s a lot of love in the araimo (they use it in nishime).”
