KAPA‘A — The county Department of Public Works announced weight restrictions for three bridges in Kapa‘a until further notice.
Vehicular traffic mauka of the Puhi Ditch bridge on Kawaihau Road, Akulikuli Bridge #2 on Kahuna Road, and the Yasutake Bridge located 0.6 miles northeast of Kamalu Road, are restricted to vehicles over 3.5 tons.
For Yasutake Bridge, all vehicles above 3.5 tons — including emergency vehicles, utility trucks and buses — are required to detour via Olohena Road, Pu‘uopa‘e Road, and ‘Opaeka‘a Road.
Access to the upper Kapahi area above Puhi Ditch Bridge and Akulikuli Bridge #2 for vehicles, trucks or equipment above 3.5 tons will require a special permit issued by DPW’s Engineering Division. Contact Donald Fujimoto at 241-4882 or dfujimoto@kauai.gov to apply for the special permit.
To preserve safety for all motorists, the weight restrictions are mandatory until the bridges can be repaired.
