FULLERTON, Calif.— The Hawai’i women’s basketball team struggled with playing their first basketball games since December 20, and the result was back-to-back conference losses to Cal State-Fullerton in their conference opener.
The Wahine, who lost their two conference opening games to CSU-Bakersfield, will now try to improve on their 0-2 conference record.
The Wahine will travel to play back-to-back games against Cal State Fullerton with both games beginning at 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Hawai’i didn’t get much production out of their key offensive contributors in the first game against the Roadrunners, with only Jadynn Alexander and Daejah Phillips accounting for most of the team’s point-production.
The pair accounted for 23 of the team’s 57 points in the first game.
In the second game, the team had another leading scorer emerge from the pack.
Hawai’i generated a lot of offensive production from Amy Atwell, who accounted for nearly half of the team’s production in the second game.
Atwell scored 23 of the team’s 43 points in the 51-43 loss.
Against the Titans, the Wahine will have to shut down one major force on their offensive scheme: Amiee Book.
Book is currently averaging 15.6 points per game and is the only player on the Cal-State Fullerton team that is currently averaging double figures headed into the twin bill with the Wahine.
Hawai’i hopes to win at least one of the Big West Conference matchups. Otherwise, they will be looking at falling to the very bottom of the conference standings.
