Girl Scouts on Kaua‘i already launched the 2021 Girl Scout Cookie season when they started accepting pre-sale orders as early as Jan. 2.
The Girl Scouts of Hawai‘i launched its annual Girl Scout Cookie season with reimagined sales methods to keep themselves and customers safe.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Girl Scouts are adapting their sales methods to continue sharing the joy of Girl Scout Cookies across the islands, including a new, nationwide collaboration with Grubhub for contact-free pick up and delivery, states a release from the Girl Scouts of Hawai‘i.
“The Girl Scout Cookies arrive on island Feb. 18, and in-person sales start on Feb. 19 until March 28. There are only a few weeks for people to get their fix,” said Angela Hoover, the Girl Scouts Kaua‘i coordinator.
Starting Feb. 1, customers can use the Girl Scout Cookie Finder online at gshawaii.org to purchase their favorite cookie flavors from local participating troops. Customers can have the cookies shipped directly to their doorstep, or purchase cookies for Girl Scout troops to donate to local organizations and first responders. After Feb. 19, the Cookie Finder can be used to find a booth sale by ZIP code.
Eight different flavors are available for 2021, including Do-Si-Dos, Samoas, Lemon-Ups, Tagalongs, Thin Mints, Trefoils, S’mores, and gluten-free Toffee-tastic.
“As the world’s largest girl-led entrepreneurial program, we are constantly providing opportunities for our girls to enhance their personal and business skills that build their character and courage,” said Shari Chang, the CEO of the Girl Scouts of Hawai‘i.
“These challenging times inspire Girl Scout troops to think outside of the box to boost cookie sales that support their efforts to make a difference in our community.”
The pandemic that arrived in Hawai‘i at the height of the 2020 Girl Scout Cookie season had a strong negative impact on sales throughout the state when health and safety concerns drove the Girl Scouts out of the public eye. Some of the traditional sale sites became unavailable, and through Hoover’s efforts new sites were selected.
Starting as early as Feb. 19, Hoover said cookie sales will take place at Ishihara Market in Waimea, Sueoka Store in Koloa, and the farmers’ market at the Coconut Marketplace in Waipouli on Tuesdays and Thursdays. During the weekends, the Girl Scout Cookies will be available inside the shopping center.
Drive-thru Kaua‘i locations include Vidinha Stadium in Lihu‘e and Wailua Shopping Plaza.
Also starting on Feb. 19, the Girl Scouts of Hawai‘i is participating in a national collaboration with food ordering and delivery platform Grubhub to enable girls to have an additional way to facilitate contact-free cookie orders. Grubhub is waiving all fees for the organization to make this delivery option feasible without reducing the troops’ proceeds. Details and available delivery and pickup locations and times are on the Girl Scout Cookie Finder at gshawaii.org or the Grubhub app.
