LIHU‘E — The County of Kaua‘i is offering free COVID-19 testing to residents employed in high-risk industries.
Included in this group are those in the tourism industry, those who traveled with an approved modified quarantine, first responders and county workers, Mayor Derek Kawakami announced Friday.
Walk-in testing is available beginning Tuesday, Jan. 19, for those who qualify, and will run through Friday. Testing will run each day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall in Lihu‘e.
To qualify:
• Those working in the visitor and hospitality industry need to bring proof of employment, like a pay stub, W2 tax form, letter from employer or work identification card;
• Recent travelers who received a modified quarantine must show proof from the state or county;
• First responders and county workers must bring supervisor-authorization forms.
Those who are already feeling ill should schedule an appointment with a primary-care provider, Kawakami said. Those without one can call Wilcox Medical Center at 462-5430, option 3.
I get the feeling that this COVID-19 is getting to be too much of a trouble spot. If nothing is broken, why fix it. This is one view. But when someone gets sick, what now? Following all protocols for a safer outing means keeping good tabs of health issues all around us. I think this rule for COVID-19 will be around for awhile. And not just until mid-2021. This might go on all the way until 2024.
