PO‘IPU – Firefighters responded to a structure fire that broke out early Friday morning on Pe‘e Road in Po‘ipu.
No injuries were reported.
Koloa firefighters were dispatched to the scene at approximately 1:15 a.m. Friday, where they found a 20-square-foot shed and two vehicles on fire. Firefighters were able to quickly gain control of the fire and extinguish the blaze.
Firefighters from the Kalaheo and Lihu‘e fire stations also responded to the scene, along with the on-duty battalion chief.
Fire inspectors estimate the damage to the structure, vehicles, and its contents to be approximately $45,000. There was also fire damage reported to the main residence.
A preliminary investigation reveals the fire was apparently caused by firework activity. The investigation remains ongoing.
Fireworks should be banned on island. This is getting out of hand. People are dying, houses on fire.
Drunk, irresponsible people using bombs, great idea!
@Makani
While we’re at it, how bout automobiles, aircraft…all travel really. You’ll see the morbidity rate with those are MUCH higher. Also carbs and sugar because obesity is a far greater problem than fireworks. How bout social media? WAY more suicides caused by cyber bullying than fireworks related accidents.
Or…realize that everything in this world involves risk. Stepping out your front door every day (assuming you do) could result in death/dismemberment, yet billions of us around the world still choose to. There was a time you were young and you did things your grand parents wouldn’t approve of, yet it made you the person you are today. Accidents happen, no matter how much you try to ban it away. Unless you’d like us ALL to live like 80 year old women, locked up at home in fear of EVERYTHING.
There’s a big difference between fireworks and the other things you mention.
The purpose of fireworks is to BLOWUP! Get it?
If you don’t, then I can’t help you……….
Maybe they could try just pouring gas on the house instead of igniting the house using fireworks. This would be one other options.
Sounds like LJ was one of the upstanding responsible citizens who got cited for illegal fireworks.
Makani isn’t pushing for your Biden like rant. He’s stating a valid concern. Irresponsible or just ignorant people who aren’t smart enough to judge dry conditions, wind direction, etc should not have fireworks. What was not stated in the story is if the lolos burned down their own house OR THEIR NEIGHBORS.
Island rule must prevail: Respect! Respect A’ina, Nature, People, etc
