KOLOA — A critical two-vehicle collision around 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon closed Kamuali’i Highway in both directions for at least four hours.
The critical crash occurred near mile marker 6, east of Maluhia Road.
At least five were seriously injured in the collision, according to dispatch reports. Multiple units responded to the call.
More detailed information on the crash will be provided when it becomes available, a Kaua‘i Police Department spokesperson said Thursday night.
So sorry for the families involved in this accident – hope everyone was ok. I was almost killed 2 Saturdays ago by a drunk driver who came across the road going over 80 mph at this literal exact spot. You might have seen the wreck sitting in the bushes. The road is currently unstriped and perfectly flat and new – it’s basically a drag strip and very dangerous. KPD needs to set up speed enforcement until people learn to drive safely on this stretch of road – and HDOT needs to get the road striped ASAP.
Once again, KPD shuts down the highway for an inordinate amount of time. In other locales the police are charged with clearing the accident scene promptly so that citizens may freely travel to their various destinations and commerce is not affected by road closures…
Prayers. The way some people drive there. Lawyer.
