HONOLULU — Hawaii’s governor on Wednesday reduced the state’s quarantine period for arriving travelers to 10 days from 14 days based on updated recommendations from public health officials.
The new rule takes effect on Thursday.
Travelers to every part of the state except for Kauai County may still avoid quarantine however if they get a negative result on a COVID-19 test taken 72 hours prior to their departure. They must have the negative result before beginning the final leg of their trip.
Hawaii Gov. David Ige’s office said in a statement he changed the rule based on recommendations issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the state Department of Health.
The CDC earlier this month revised its quarantine guidance to say people who have been in contact with someone infected with the virus can resume normal activity after 10 days, or seven days if they receive a negative test result. That’s down from the 14-day period recommended since the pandemic began.
When is Kauai going to comment on the pause?
When will Kauai give an update on expected opening. We have spent alot of money and have continued to push our wedding trip up a month. We cant get our money back off vrbo rentals. We deserve an update on timelines. Businesses are struggling and opening back up should be a priorty. My friends are shutting down their business because of this on island. Tgeir are ways to control this and shutting down fully shouldn’t be one especially when other islands remain open. Health and safety is a priorty for the island but an update is deserved.
Is there any reason to think that a 14 day quarantine was more effective? This was the decision by the CDC. If so, what would be the reason for not changing it back to a 14 day quarantine? COVID-19 is respiratory disease. The patient have a hard time breathing. I haven’t read all the articles out on COVID-19. Just few of them. I was curious if this is the advanced stages of the disease. I didn’t see anything wrong with the 14 day quarantine. Also are the test that they give out at the airports accurate? Which would lead me to believe not accurate. Because they have to take it again upon departure or get the 10 day quarantine again. What would be the reason for shortening the days?
Also on the other article by Sabrina Bodon, I think that the economic issue on this COVID-19 might have played a role in changing the quarantine rule to a 10 day stay. CARES Act. She mentioned that this runs out by the end of the month. Meaning no more funds to go around. Is this the case?
