KILAUEA — The Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay recently awarded its 2020 Employer of the Year award to Kilauea Bakery and owners Tom and Katie Pickett.
Bill Schilling, club Vocational Committee chair and a Kilauea Bakery regular, presented the award to Tom Pickett during a morning stop by the bakery.
“Kilauea Bakery is everything you want: great eats, great staff, total aloha flavor,” Schilling said.
“When coming to Kilauea Bakery you are greeted by hard-working and pleasant employees. Soon they know both your first name and your favorite fresh-baked Sunday bread. That is not accidental,” he said.
Tom and Katie Pickett have displayed their plaque prominently for all to see.
“Tom and Katie are proof of entrepreneurial survival,” said David Dinner, club president. “COVID hit the business hard and downsizing adjustments had to be made, but Kilauea Bakery has survived,” Dinner said.
