Sally Faye Muirhead
Our beloved mother, Sally Faye Muirhead, passed away Sept. 23, 2020, with her family by her side, in her hometown of Waimea.
She was born Oct. 20, 1930, in Mana on the Westside of Kaua‘i. She attended Punahou School, Class of 1948, and she was married to the late Jimmy Muirhead.
They had two children, Matt Muirhead (wife Lisa Muirhead) of Santa Cruz, California, and Jill Muirhead of Waimea. She is also survived by brothers Alan Faye of Princeville, Michael Faye of Waimea and sister Maren Faye of Ashland, Oregon.
She has seven grandkids who she cherished and filled with her gift of joy: Erin Doan, Megan Dennis, Craig Muirhead, Leslie Lu Mayer, all of Santa Cruz, California, Brandon Papworth of Washington, Justin Papworth of Petaluma, California, and Sara Muirhead of San Francisco. She has 12 great-grandchildren and one on the way. All will now grow surrounded by her watchful spirit.
She lived with such joy and humor. People gravitated towards her natural charm. She battled Alzheimer’s for the past seven years in Waimea, just a stone throw from where she grew up. She raised her kids and grandkids with such strength and grace despite the challenge of being a single mother. Her home was always open to everyone, and all felt loved. It was always a mystery who would show up for dinner.
She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had many lifelong friends in Kahala, Kekaha, Los Gatos, California and throughout the world. She served a church mission to Australia and spread her aloha to everyone she met.
After spending wonderful years in Campbell, California and Provo, Utah, she moved home to Waimea to retire. She settled into a comfortable life and continued with her passion for knowledge, always surrounded by non-fiction books and trying to learn Norwegian.
The family wants to thank Kaua‘i Care Center in Waimea for all the love, compassion and generosity they gave her. She made wonderful friends there and nothing could stop her smile and laughter.
A celebration of her life will be held next year when family and friends can gather.
