John Feagans (he’s still trying to get back to Kaua‘i’s Westside but the flights keep getting canceled) is probably going to spend the holidays in Japan. He got a head start on the winter by getting his snow shovel in the car and installing snow tires before the Oct. 1 deadline.

If you missed National Coffee Day (how come Sandy Poehnelt didn’t let me know about this one — coffee goes good with pie?), International Coffee Day is Oct. 1, when we can enjoy a nice brew (how about some new blends?) while lamenting the discovery of the coffee berry borer in the fields of Kaua‘i’s coffee growers.
Kristen Leong and the Leong’s Meat Company ‘ohana is hosting a chili bowl fundraisers (lunch, Ron Wood, after Puhi Park Produce?) Saturday at the little meat shop in Kapa‘a to benefit Kalani Telles and his ‘ohana, who are battling cancer (Edie Ignacio Neumiller — she’s a Zonta Club of Kaua‘i member also on the Hawai‘i State Commission on the Status of Women — wants people to wear pink on Fridays to show support for the fight against cancer). The county is going to light the Historic County Building in Lihu‘e pink during October to mark National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Melissa McFerrin-Warrack said Oct. 1 is when Kalapaki Joe’s is planning on opening its expanded lanai area and unveiling its new menu offerings at Kukui Grove Center, and Aunty Lilikoi’s in Waimea (if you’re lucky, maybe Lynn Carvalho will have some of that mui) goes to its pre-COVID hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
