KALAHEO — The Specialty Clinic at Kalaheo celebrated a soft opening, Monday under physician Dr. Alyssa Murata and Physician Assistant Erin Carrington.
“This clinic basically offers pediatric services,” said Hawai‘i Health System Corporation, Kaua‘i Region CEO and president Lance Segawa. “We acquired this property from a private pediatric clinic, and working with the landlord, developed this over the past four months.”
The Specialty Clinic, offering a hometown doctor appearance, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments and more information can be done by calling 378-4557.
Featuring three kid-friendly examination rooms, a spacious and comfortable reception and waiting area, and a doctor’s office, The Specialty Clinic at Kalaheo’s support team helping the doctors include Jasmine Cadenan, Tammi Quinlan and Devan Uyeno.
Construction of the facility was led by HHSC Kaua‘i Region Director of Facilities John Pimental and his crew.
“I even made a Jeep,” Pimental said of one of the examining rooms called the Dinosaur Room.
The opening of The Specialty Clinic at Kalaheo, the second HHSC Kaua‘i Region facility to open in Kalaheo, joins the HHSC, Kaua‘i Region network of clinics that include The Clinic at Waimea, The Clinic at Port Allen, The Clinic at Kalaheo, The Clinic at Po‘ipu and Urgent Care at Po‘ipu, and the Clinic at Kapa‘a.
“The overall goal of the HHSC Kaua‘i Region clinics is to improve quality access to healthcare for the rural communities on the island,” said Dr. Ronald Fujimoto of the HHSC, Kaua‘i Region.
The HHSC, Kaua‘i Region also operates the Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waimea, a full-service Critical Access Hospital, and the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital, originally opening as a 50-bed hospital for local tuberculosis patients, and in 2005, becoming a Critical Access Hospital with the opening of a 24-hour emergency department.
