Mayor has have kept us safe from virus
In Sunday’s The Garden Island on page four, “protest against restrictions.” On page nine in the forum, three articles and one cartoon questioning restrictions.
What are the editors of The Garden Island selling?
There were no articles about countries that were continuing to have low counts and success in opening back up because they had a population and a government that cooperate in restrictions. Also, I googled the flu and covid death ratio and, according to hopkinsmedicine.org from Johns Hopkins Medical, there were 946,685 deaths worldwide from COVID-19 since January and world health estimates 290,000 to 650,000 die from the flu each year.
One writer in the forum stated, “The death rate continues to be at or even slightly below the death rate for the regular flu.” Publishing such false information almost implies support for the writer’s point of view. Also, the Johns Hopkins article said doctors and scientists are working to estimates the death rate of COVID-19 and, at present, it is thought to be 10 times more deadly than the flu. Our wonderful mayor has done such a courageous effort to keep us all safe, and because of him and community support we can hike, go to beaches, dine out and enjoy life on beautiful Kaua‘i. Mahalo to our mayor and our community.
Charlie Baker, Lawa‘i
Wow. Arguing with this is like doing so with a child.
Amen Charlie, nicely said!
Well put Charlie Baker. No matter how far fetched and how much of a stretch the nonscientific believers’ opinions are, TGI prints them.
The countries doing the best with the coronavirus are the ones taking the firm stances.
The agenda of the nonscientific writers is what? Their personal finances as opposed health and safety? Lack of integrity and intellect? Anything to support a corrupt, self serving, lying potus?
Lucky for us our population on Kauai is relatively small, that and our Mayor standing firm with restrictions has been instrumental in keeping our COVID cases low.
But Charlie your source of info and statistics is from the very people who rely on disease for their income and have always used Fear to sell their products of prescription drugs and surgeries and other risky treatments like radiation.
Doctor induced Fear: “If you don’t take this drug or surgery you are going to die!” Or get worse!
How often have you heard this?
How about educated patients that say I don’t want your drugs and surgery, I want to get well and be healthy. My body had the intelligence to build itself from conception to,birth without any help, but nutrition form my Mother, why wouldn’t my body be able to maintain Health if just given the chance to do that.
Dr: You’ve lost you leg and a lot of blood, we’re taking you into surgery STAT!
Nate: No way! It’ll be fine if I give it time…
Dr induced fear?
More like Dr induced precautions. Or some prefer plain old stupidity induced by certain self serving politicians and many falsehoods.
We had greatly reduced, or almost eliminated, Tetnus, Diptheria, Polio, and Smallpox. Was that Dr induced fear?
What does Nate’s source for info rely on?
“Mayor has kept us safe from virus”. Let us now all bow and kiss his feet.
What he has not told us is how many of his subjects are now unemployed and requiring government assistants due to him keeping us safe. Sustainability is a word people like to throw around. A high level of unemployment is not sustainable. No amount of circular economy can sustain a high level of unemployment. We are all responsible for our own safety. Stop kidding your collective selves. This virus isn’t going away any time soon and yes it does have a high survival rate. Let us acquire proper protection for our high risk family members, open up the island and let us get back to work. If you are afraid to go back to work , don’t. Find another way to support yourself. Most of us want to work. My mask protects you and your mask protects me. Wash you hands. Done. Let’s get back to work.
Thank you Charlie to this data-backed assessment. I fully agree with you and who we should be grateful to. Rather than criticizing all physicians, it’s important to speak out for them. After a lifetime career as a clinical laboratory technologist, and as a cancer survivor, I can assure that the vast majority believe in and act upon their oath of, “Do no harm.” Readers should not dump all of one group because of a few bad apples.
