Steam kept her from colds, flu
I am incredibly frustrated every time I read about people like Josh Green becoming COVID-positive.
For many years I have been doing one simple action in order to not get colds or the flu. The action was based on information in a CDC document on cold and flu viruses (during the time avian flu began in humans). It said that both cold and flu viruses were 1) susceptible to heat (I later learned at least 170 degrees F), and 2) they incubated in nasal mucosa 24 hours.
So I have been breathing steam from freshly boiled water once a day since then. As long as I have done that I have not had either colds or flu, while people around me kept suffering. (I did catch a cold once during that time when I was flying home from the Canary Islands and had no way to boil water until I got home.) Now I read that the COVID-19 virus behaves the same way and is inactivated by heat.
I wrote to Dr. Berreman about it. She said it sounds intriguing but does not have the weight of science behind it. Apparently the CDC is not heavy enough?
True, no one has done studies to compare, but it is certainly based on scientific facts. I believe that people in situations such as Dr. Josh Green has been in, surrounded by people who might have the virus, would have benefited. I don’t know if the body still makes antibodies if the virus is inactivated.
The beautiful thing about breathing steam is that it is a healthy thing to do. Obviously, the person has to be careful with steam. I tell people to take a quick whiff. When it feels comfortable, breathe it. (I recommend 10 slow, deep breaths, but that is just to be sure that the steam can reach deep into the throat — that is not based on any scientific study.)
But how to get the message out? Because it could work on COVID-19, it seems to me worth doing just as much as wearing a mask. Any suggestions?

Stick to the real issues
This week, the newspaper included a letter that surprised me. In this tense political era when so many false stories are spread in the media to the point where we see Twitter, Facebook, Instagram alerting readers to false stories or even block them, I was dismayed to see the letter describing the wildfires as arson attacks by the leftists (BLM, Antifa, etc.).
It does not serve the purpose of democracy and its fair elections to allow such unsupported stories to be printed. Given the thousands of lightning strikes, high winds, and dry conditions, it defies logic to suggest the hundreds of fires were started simultaneously by groups. People could say that sounds like a Russian message to scare people and change the subject from the pandemic.
Please, for the sake of fair elections, reconsider publishing such baseless comments. Yes, it generates reader response, but it just adds to the distraction from the real issues.

Editor’s note: The letter in question was submitted by a reader and it ran on the Forum page. It was an opinion piece not an article.
Thank you for your important letter, Judith. But I was disheartened to see the comment following it by the Editor stating that it was okay to say virtually anything you wanted to in an “opinion piece,” even if it was full of lies and distortions, as Howard Tolbe’s was.
It’s long been known that The Garden Island newspaper does not fact-check and it’s frustrating for this reader to see falsehoods repeated over and over again in the paper. Lies need to be unmasked and it is the Editor’s responsibility to see that what the public reads is as close to the truth as possible. Stating that it was an “opinion piece” and therefore exempt from fact-checking is a weak excuse.
Well Judith, for someone who has no clue as to how the fires started throughout the Western U.S. you certainly have a strong opinion about them? Is it just a coincidence that all the riots and fires started in our Democrat cities just happened to become a 2 month trend, and then in the middle of that, unprecedented fires started throughout the forests of the 3 most liberal Democrat States? Our cities go up in flames at the same time our forests burn to the ground started by “unknown” sources? Are the burned out city buildings and the forests now communicating with each other? You might be interested to know that there have been multiple arrests made of those investigated for starting fires. These are only the ones who, because of hard evidence, got caught!!
“The following 22 persons, some with ages listed, have been arrested for intentionally starting recent fires in the North West. Some in multiple places: Jedidiah Fulton, 39; Alberto Vincent Acosta; Kevin Carle, 37; Ivan Geronimo Gomez, 30; Guadalupe Molina-Pacheco, Julian Draper, Demarco Covey, 24; Wesley James Bergman, 37; Elias Pendergrass, 44; Anita Esquivel, 37; Vanya Hummel, 24; John Davies, 55; Christine Comello, 36; Alesander Bradford Smith, 26; Jesse Peterson, 30; Jeffrey Accord, 36; Milton Loice Moran, 48; Anthony Travis Bodda, 21; Alexander Jones, 36; Michael Jarrod Bakkeia, 41; Jonathan Maas, 44; and Sammy Scott Piatt.”
Of course the main stream media will say it’s all Global Warming because they happen to be fake news, greedy, agenda driven rags, but If you want the full truth here is more: http://libertyunderfire.org/2020/09/anarchist-arsonists-join-in-destroying-americas-forests/
Ruta,
Inhaling steam at 170 degrees Farenheit or higher would very likely be fatal.
Have you ever breathed steam? Try it. Don’t breathe deeply until it is comfortable.
Anyone who uses the term “Democrat cities” immediately loses credibility. What does that mean? I’m positive that there are Republican citizens living in these “Democrat cities”. What exactly is a Democratic City and what does that have to do with anything other than regurgitating a talking point you heard on Fox News? Don’t both Democrats and Republicans live in every major city in the US?
Well James, you don’t like the term “Democrat” cities? Reminds me of the ostrich with their heads in the sand living in a dream world of self importance? Name the 10 cities where the protesting, rioting, statue desecration, looting, and overall violence are the most severe and obvious. Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, San Francisco, Charlotte, New Orleans, Minneapolis, Washington, Detroit, Portland, Louisville, and on and on. All run by Democrat Mayors, Democrat local Governments, Democrat Attorney Generals and they have a majority of Democrat (free stuff junkies) controlled populations. Now name the 10 largest cities run by Republican Government majorities? San Diego, Jacksonville, Fort Worth, El Paso, Oklahoma City, Omaha, Miami, Virginia Beach, Arlington, and Tulsa. Wow! Not one news article anywhere about riots, looting etc. in those majority Republican cities! All are run financially well with low debt as compared to the Democrat cities being all but bankrupt. Every last one of them! There is no such thing as “free” stuff, and the Democrats main claim to your vote is what they will take from the tax payors and give to others, including illegal aliens, for “free”. You’re on the losing team Ostrich. Anyone who would vite for a Democrat is morally bankrupt, or successfully brainwashed. Just sayin!
James, Please educate yourself. The term Democratic cities refers to cities that are run and controlled by politicians and appointed individuals who are Democrats. See how easy that is? So, Democratic cities such as Baltimore, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle and Portland, to name a few, are all run by DEMOCRATS. Note how well those cities are doing from a law and order standpoint, a fiscal responsibility standpoint, etc. They are all in a world of hurt, in disrepair, in financial ruin. A sane person would not even visit those cities, let alone live in one. Hence, the mass exodus out of said cities.
Again, see how easy that was?
Not a single link in your article between those arrested and any political movement; not one single link.
So what? The fires were set by PEOPLE! Their allegiances will be uncovered soon enough!
Judith said: “It does not serve the purpose of democracy and its fair elections to allow such unsupported stories to be printed.”
So freedom of speech is now out the window! Great example of how the LEFT is for restricting the right of people to express their opinions. What’s next? Shall we ban street protests if they don’t match the elite’s mantras? This letter is a perfect example of the Left’s unamerican mentality. I didn’t agree with his letter, but I do support his right to say what he said. But then the Left thinks the public is stupid and can’t think for themselves.
Right on Judith Fernandez. The consensus of most of the comments agreed that the letter about antifa etc, starting the WA fires was not based on facts. But your point was that printing something that fact free in our paper is disturbing. It makes TGI seem more like Facebook.
“Given the thousands of lightning strikes, high winds, and dry conditions, it defies logic to suggest the hundreds of fires were started simultaneously by groups.”
Judith:
You forgot the single most important factor: gross negligence and incompetence in the western states’ FORESTRY MANAGEMENT PRACTICES. How is it that no private forests have been ravaged by fire…or the forests in Canada? Both private and Canadian forests are well managed and include the vital step of clearing all dead-fall, dead trees and dense dry, underbrush.
A California relative of my wife was arrested for clearing dead underbrush on the state land that abutted his property and home.
