Maybe Love Has Won after all
As a former Molokai resident I was shocked at the lack of Aloha displayed by Kauai to a group of visitors seeking only rest and recovery from medical problems, at least according to your article.
That Kauai police and local officials caved in so readily to rowdy and property-destroying protesters is beyond disappointing to me and clouds the happy memories I have of your island.

What a day
During this time of uncertainty that greatly affects us all, it was a small moment of pure joy to be at Ke’e Beach early on Labor Day and experience not only the beauty and uniqueness of our island gem; but also to see families showing up with food, chairs and aloha to spend the day relaxing and having good fun.
Yes, we do need the tourists to provide necessary jobs for the community but it was just simply heartwarming to see our local families enjoying a treasured spot that had plenty of room for all of us. What a day!

Trump a national disgrace
One thing about the Trump presidency is certain – that the president’s malfeasance worsens every day. Mr. Trump is unable to learn or improve because he’s an imbecile with obviously diminished capacity. So there’s no reason to expect that things will ever get better. The fact is that the United States (and the rest of the world) are victims of Mr. Trump’s lifetime of deliberate and prideful ignorance and incompetence. Almost everything he touches fails (Trump University, Trump Mortgage, Trump Casinos, Trump Steaks, Trump Vodka, Trump Water, Trump Airlines – the list of his failures goes on and on) so why should the United States government be any different?
Today, audio recordings have been released of Mr. Trump admitting that he deliberately lied to the nation about the lethality of COVID-19. Despite that, he continues to assemble large, mask-less rallies to satisfy his craven need for adoration. He’s a malignant narcissist, and people – like Herman Cain, for instance – have died in the service of worshiping Trump. Nothing is below Trump. Absolutely nothing.
Of course, none of this matters to his adoring fans, including our local Republican Party leadership and the flag waving caravan. There is no corruption too flamboyant; no number of golf games at the public expense while Americans are dying by the thousands too callous; and no number of needless deaths caused by Trump’s deliberate lying will stop them from adoring our spectacularly unfit, failed president. When the history is written about the Trump presidency, the real scandal will be that a single American voted for him. It’s a national disgrace.
Kurt Last, Anahola
Kurt
Thank you so much for your letter. Certainly we are not the only ones who see how despicable this man is.
Aloha Carmen,
Apparently you missed out on viewing the videos of the 2 cult leaders of “Love has Won“ (an oxymoron if there ever was won) screaming obscenities and violence and death threats to those outside their cult, including our Kaua’i community.
Clearly the right thing was done, and they are gone. Mahalo yo the community, the Police, and Mayor for making the assist.
Aloha Kurt,
Apparently you have not read the determination that 94% of alleged Covid deaths are actually and only caused by the patient’s own self induced dietary and lifestyle habits leading to their decades long pre-existing condition leading to their generously facilitated deaths assisted by their toxic and even lethal, see rhe TV ADS, liberal decades long use of deleterious prescription drugs.
Hey comment away – but please cite your source for that 94% BS. Either it’s wrong or you read it wrong.
Kurt, well said. But Biden, really? Pick your poison, or not.
Vote for Hiding in the Basement Biden!
I’ll vote for Doing Whatever in Whatever Place Biden over anyone else on the ballot this year.
Mr. Last – You’ll undoubtedly spend the next day or two reading hateful responses to your letter by the resident right-wingers here. You presented the facts with no hyperbole, and they just can’t stand that. But before the (metaphorical) bullets fly, let me be the first to say: Spot on! Thank you.
If you read a little more clearly, you might see there are no ‘facts’ or any supporting evidence. Just more “REEEE ORANGE MAN BAD!!! rant. At least try not to be so obvious.
Aloha Kurt.
Just like most critics of Trump you cite basically no examples of anything except one wherein he recently stated he downplayed the virus to provide calm not panic. Of course if he “up-played” it then he would have been a terrible leader who caused panic. Do the numbers Kurt; at worst COIVD has a 97% recovery rate and at best a 99% recovery rate. It is not a deadly disease. A lie told often and long enough will be believed. You have been lied to about Trump and you have eaten it up.
You challenge someone to do the numbers, but fail to provide a credible source for the input.
Be careful Kurt, your unintelligent and naïve rant letter says much more about you than it does about President Trump. There is not enough space in the entire Garden Island paper to list all of the incredible things Trump has done for America in his 3+ short years, in spite of the angry, brainwashed, fake news junkie’s ugly attempts to kill everything at every turn the President has tried to do. Russian collusion, impeachment, and so much more time spent on unproductive idiocy trying to kill the America of our Founders. You and your little Socialist buffoons have no clue as to what has made America the greatest nation in the history of the world. How sad it is for all those who would believe in your childish and skewed understanding of the truth!
NF, Bravo! Well said.
“There is not enough space in the entire Garden Island paper to list all of the incredible things Trump has done for America…”
Not even enough space in your post to name one, apparently.
Bill,
Please enjoy Denver, Kauai really doesnt need you or your cult here on the islands.
I just love hearing the liberal rants about our president. It’s going to be fun to read what you have to say once the election is over and the reaction to Trump getting four more years in the White House. The Democrats should no by now that America has had enough of politician style running of this country and more than ever voters will continue to make that change. Sorry about your bad luck.. you will have to come up with something much better to catch my attention sir.
Do you know what a politician is, by definition?
Kurt
You forgot to mention Trumps successes … oops
Grand Hyatt Hotel
Trump bought the former Commodore Hotel, which had fallen into relative disrepair, from Penn Central Railroad in 1974 and after six years of construction, the Grand Hyatt Hotel debuted. Smack dab in the heart of New York City, with the image of Grand Central reflected off its glass façade, the 34-story hotel is still booming business today.
Trump Tower
Trump broke ground on his now-famous 48-story Trump Tower in 1980. The luxury high-rise opened in 1983 and, with upscale restaurants and stores located in the mostly residential building, is still highly sought after real estate.
Wollman Rink
Trump renovated Wollman Rink in 1986 after contacting Mayor Ed Koch and offering to complete the renovation for $3 million. He finished the project on time and $750,000 under budget. Wollman Rink remains a Central Park fixture with more than 5 million annual visitors.
40 Wall Street
Trump purchased the building in 1995 for $1 million and renovated it for $35 million. Today, 40 Wall Street, one of the tallest office buildings in downtown New York, is worth over $500 million.
Trump Place
After years of negotiations, Trump finally broke ground on Trump Place, the gargantuan housing development along the Hudson River. The development includes 25 acres of open space and 5,700 apartments housed in 18 residential buildings.
The Apprentice
The Apprentice premiered on NBC in 2004 to great ratings. Trump served as not only the host but also the executive producer, raking in $1 million per episode. The show was successful enough that it inspired a spinoff, The Celebrity Apprentice.
Trump International Tower Chicago
Trump bought the former Chicago Sun-Times headquarters in 2005 for $73 million and converted it into the second tallest building in Chicago. It houses a hotel, condos, restaurants and shops, and was named Travel+Leisure’s best large city hotel in North America in 2010.
The Trump Organization is a group of about 500 business entities of which Donald Trump is the sole or principal owner. About 250 of these entities use the Trump name.
Looks like a good foundation to build a nation.
But Kurt, wah wah! You hurt our feelings with the truth. We don’t like the Orange Man, we don’t…. wah wah! Where is my safe space? Where is my soy low fat latte frapachino, where is my pacifier? I want my mommy! I’m goin’ in to hiden, just like Creepy Joe Hiden! wah wah!
I could go on for hours, but it’s Happy Hour! Cheers to 45 and the next four years!
You can write here like a seven year old if you choose to, as Americans are dying by the thousands.
And I have no doubt that you actually could go on for hours.
About 200,000 Americans are dead from COVID-19, with more dying every day, and we are in the middle of an economic catastrophe presided over by Trump. You wrote about hotels and a scripted television.
Thank you for validating my point about his supporters.
Bill Freeling,
Part 1 of this CULT was on Dr. Phil yesterday. Part 2 will air today. If you missed it you can watch both on Dr. Phil’s website. I’m certain you’ll feel differently after seeing the shows. Educate yourself before you continue to insult Kaua’i residents.
WOW! Completely brainwashed by the left’s koolaid. No logical statements with facts, and only opinion. Don’t drink any party’s koolaid. If you fell for the brainwashing, you should be very upset. And your response to fix things needs to be your vote. Not ranting like a rabid dog. Truth over drama wins every time.
Bill Freeling from Denver: “As a former Molokai resident I was shocked at the lack of Aloha displayed by Kauai…”
Bill you might also be shocked to learn that they were run out of your state of Colorado before they came to Kauai. Perhaps doing some research on that cult will help you get over your shock.
RE: nothings free.
On Sept. 9 you said:
“First of all, Veterans love Trump with a passion. He’s done more for them than any other President in 70 years! Their medical care problems have been fixed, they can now go to any doctor they choose, they are celebrated and thanked almost daily by this President, and the entire military is overwhelmingly pro Trump!”
My response:
Wait, what? You Republicans should know by now that you need to fact check EVERYTHING that comes out of Trumps mouth. You have the internet at your fingertips. Use it before you continue spreading nonsense! Here’s what really happened…
“In 2014, Obama signed a bill that permitted veterans to seek private care outside of Veterans Affairs facilities. It also gave money for the VA to hire additional doctors and nurses, and overhauled the VA’s electronic medical records.”
Update 2018: “The president has continued the Veterans Choice Program, a program started in 2014 following a scandal over wait times at Veterans Affairs facilities. The program was created through the Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act, a bipartisan bill that was signed by President Barack Obama.”
Now who…
Is “Unintelligent’
Doesn’t “have a clue”
Is “naive”
Is a “fake news junkie”
Is a “buffoon”
Is “Childish”
Is “sad”
Has a “skewed understanding of the truth”
Why is it the only way most Republicans know how to defend Trump is with insults & name calling? Shameful. It’s like you’re incapable of a respectful discussion, which speaks volumes about your mentality. You, and every other Trump worshiper, need to acquire some manners, and a big dose of reality in your life.
Hey LTE you’re still here after all these years holding on to the idiocy that is anti-American Liberal/Socialist dogma! At least you’re consistent, if only consistently wrong! You want the Constitution to rule then vote straight Republican, or don’t vote. As far as the Veterans, of which I am one, you do realize that over 80% of us are voting for Trump, right? You can not tell lies as if they are true, and you can not convince America that Obama was anything but a failed neophyte disguised as a Chicago Politician. The idiot mucked up everything he touched, except his admiration for actors, rappers, illegals and the 8 million more Americans who were on welfare and food stamps during his “reign”. Perhaps you need more of that “medical” marijuana in order to recognize that you’re doing nothing more than mimicking the drinking of that fake news cool aide straight from CNN,
Please back it up or stop posting lies.
Hey Last, One word: Obamagate! The most corrupt President in US history. To weaponize the Justice Department and all of our intelligence departments: FBI, DNI, CIA, etc. against an political opponent. Please. You suffer from TDS for sure.
Yes, of course. The entirety of the federal government law enforcement and intelligence apparatus was “weaponized” and was focused on preventing Trump from winning the election. And despite that, he lost the popular vote by millions but won the electoral college. That is quite a theory that you’ve developed. Exactly.
Thanks again for proving my point.

In referencing Mr. Trump’s business successes, you conclude, “Looks like a good foundation to build a nation.” Are you suggesting privatizing the United States of America?
I think that good foundation to build a nation was found in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. We’re supposed to be hewing to that, not to any single individual.
Aloha Hirondelle
Privatizing the USA … absolutely NOT!
I was just showing the business strength of our President in knowing how to make the United States of America the Strongest … The Best!!
I Totally Agree … “I think that good foundation to build a nation was found in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.”
Plus … taking us back to a country of … fearing and honoring God! IN GOD WE TRUST!!
That is the belief, the foundation, of our leaders who penned both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
ONE Nation Under God!!

Kurt,
When the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus a global health emergency in late January, its chief said a worldwide travel ban wasn’t required to beat the virus.
Nevertheless, Italy, New Zealand, Australia, the United States and others all defied the WHO and placed travel restrictions against China.
The media have since criticized President Trump’s response as inadequate to this day
Never mentioning that nominee Joe Biden had called the US President’s action “hysterically xenophobic”, implying he would kept the virus floodgates wide open.
I doubt if the Collusion News Network ever mentioned that
Your comment about Mr. Biden calling Trump’s travel restrictions “hysterically xenophobic” would be interesting, but only if that was true. However, since Mr. Biden never said that about the travel restrictions, I’ll just chalk it up to another failed attempt by a Trump supporter to salvage Mr. Trump’s pathetic performance as president.
In a statement not associated with the travel restrictions, Mr. Biden did say that Trump had a “record of hysteria, xenophobia, and fear-mongering.” That was because Trump did and still does engage in hysteria, xenophobia and fear-mongering. CNN didn’t report what you wrote because it didn’t happen. They usually don’t report things that don’t happen.
Trump never imposed a travel ban from China, as he and his supporters have lied about endlessly. Planes kept flying back and forth until, in the opinion of airline management, it didn’t make economic sense to do that. Mr. Trump lied (of course) that government scientists argued against travel restrictions. When asked about that, the Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said the decision stemmed from “the uniform recommendations of the career public health officials here at HHS.” Mr. Trump lies about everything – even things about which there is clear public record that contradict him. The fact is that in the month before Trump imposed travel restrictions, after the virus was known to be spreading, just over 300,000 people flew to the United States from China.
The virus was already widespread and the disease was spreading rapidly in the United States. On February 5th, 30 planes arrived in Los Angeles that either originated in Beijing arrived as one-stop flights, 30 in San Francisco and 25 in New York City. So not much of a travel ban. When asked by reporters for names of individuals in government who criticized the travel restrictions, the White House could not provide a single name. There was concern about Trump’s typical racist language (Kung Flu, etc) and how that might interrupt cooperation between Chinese and American public health officials, and it turns out that concern was well founded.
Mr. Trump had a clear duty at that point to stop lying that the virus would magically go away, and to press for social distancing & mask use. He was trying to salvage his campaign, and lied constantly about the spread and rising death toll. He and his enablers still muzzle public health officials, even after almost 200,000 Americans are dead. Trump is a national disgrace, as are his enablers.
nothings free:
I have no reason to lie, nor would I. Search the internet. That is, if you can stomach the truth. And no “medical marijuana” here. Sorry to burst yet another of your fantasy bubbles.
Thanks for your service, if you did in fact serve. And then there’s your hero Trump…
“Mr. Trump claimed his medical deferment was because of a bone spur, but when I asked for medical records, he gave me none and said there was no surgery, Cohen told members of the House Oversight Committee. He told me not to answer the specific questions by reporters but rather offer simply the fact that he received a medical deferment. He finished the conversation with the following comment: You think I’m stupid, I wasn’t going to Vietnam.”
