Hiker rescued near Hanakoa Valley

HANALEI — Firefighters rescued a 25-year-old hiker on the Kalalau Trail near Hanakoa Valley on Thursday afternoon.
At approximately 12:40 p.m. on Thursday, firefighters received a call of an injured hiker who suffered from possible heat exhaustion.
At approximately 1:10 p.m., Kaua‘i Fire Department rescue specialists aboard Air 1 located the female resident and her hiking party. After contacting and assessing the hiker, first responders determined that she could walk to the helicopter’s landing zone with assistance of the rescue crew.
The hiker was airlifted to Princeville Airport to awaiting medical personal and firefighters from the Hanalei fire station.
The scene was cleared at approximately 2:40 p.m.
