On the same page about masks
After reading Sabrina Bodon’s article “Keeping COVID spread at bay on Kaua‘i” and the comments, it dawned on me that there needs to be a discussion between government health officials, business leaders and the general public to determine the course to a gradual reopening albeit with rules for the “new normal.”
I want to compliment all the residents of Kaua’i for the way they have approached “The Covid.” Why doesn’t the Garden Island newspaper sponsor this public forum with social distancing and mask requirements?

COVID-19 vs. Transparency
COVID-19 is a virus that no one seems to have any real answers to other than the good Lord himself.
Which has only allowed this virus to take front row and center seat to some pretty outlandish conspiracy theories. I know this, because I’m one of those people.
But isn’t that to be expected by any citizen within a community where their government has been so corruptive and shady for so darn long that it becomes too foggy to see? Lack of transparency will most definitely lead to a lack of trust. But yet, our leaders are baffled by the lack of cooperation by their constituents.
The proof is in the pudding as the old adage goes.
I personally, believe this is just another political stunt, laced with more corruption, and a few affluent wanting to control humanity by removing us farther away from our natural and moral rights, elector power, and livelihoods.
Think about it? Why has Governor Ige been so secretive, and felt the need to remove our transparency laws during a time when facts and answers are extremely crucial?
And why is it that our Health Department is lying to us when people’s lives are at “supposed” dire straights?
And what’s this? No one in the world is no longer dying of any other causes other than COVID?
How many people do you personally know has been struck down by COVID?
Then we have selective members and businesses that are able to open and/or go about their daily lives, while others are forced to remain shut down. As if “COVID” plays favoritism like our leaders.
Then there are the obituaries and funeral announcements that are simply not adding up to the actual amount of deaths.
Then there’s all the close-contact protesting and rioting, but yet, those folks are still going strong.
Then we have people out their wearing cotton bandanas and face masks, which by the way are the least effective, per researchers at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
Then we have leaders with overweening egos that will never admit that they have no clue as to how to handle the tourist coming here and contaminating all of us. You fine/charge these people then what? Send them back home or to jail to contaminate others, while refusing to let residents of Hawai‘i know where those tourist went when they were in violation?
Then our judicial system allows criminals to be released from jail, yet law-abiding citizens are penalized and left to deal with these unsavory characters. A mass release and never giving one thought about their victims.
And yet, our leaders have the audacity to put this back on us? Uh huh!
To all our elected officials… I think you’ve all cried wolf one too many times. Therefore; your sheep are no longer listening.

Lisa Malakaua says that the COVID-19 pandemic is just “another political stunt.” Nevermind that 187,793 Americans have died of it as of today (Sept. 1) and 848,000 have died worldwide. That’s some political stunt.
Lisa and the Flock-
Your letter and theories, in a word are baaaad. Wake up and smell the virus.
I think you should worry about Hilo and let us handle things over here on Kauai. By the way, I love conspiracy theories! They are so entertaining! Feel free to share some more anytime.
And then there is the investors in that Wuhan Lab .
The Whole Bill Gates vaccine pharmaceutical company
complex. That’s a real interesting read.
Isn’t it about time that “Conspiracy Theories” were renamed: “Celebrations of ignorance?”
Time to wake up from your slumber, Pete. Apparently you missed the August 26th announcement from the CDC. Perhaps that’s understandable since they slipped it in under the radar and under the awareness of the frightened masses that have been propagandized—yourself included.
the CDC has quietly revised its COVID US death numbers. Instead of 161,000 deaths, the actual number is less than 10,000, in the category of “died from the virus and no other causes.”
GreenMedInfo: “The implications of this are jaw-dropping, confirming what so many of us have been saying for months, namely, the death stats have been overinflated, likely by several orders of magnitude. The CDC surreptitiously updated their COVID death statistics on August 26th, with astounding implications, namely, less than 10k of the 161k people the CDC has said ‘died from COVID’ were classified as having been killed by COVID-19 alone. The rest had 2-3 additional causes of death, the vast majority of which were chronic diseases indicative of poor health which long pre-existed this event. Sources:”

Colin McCleod
You misunderstood the tables.
If your slow walk from a heart condition gets you hit by a bus, what is the cause of death? That’s right, beginner, it’s the bus!
BTW
Twitter removed that CDC falsehood. Find a new falsehood.
Lisa,
Did you ever think by them ( the government ) That they were trying to downplay numbers to get the state to open early, because most politicians are businessmen and lets face it, most of the people who want to reopen own a business of some kind. What is your angle on this, do you own a business? Why do think Hawaii has had so few per capita test, less tests = less covid. I am not saying that I am right, but a least be willing to go to the Queens punch bowl Hospital and talk to the ER doctors about how fake this is. Let us know what you find out.
For the love of God:
80% of “COVID” deaths (per CDC website) are over the age of 65, and they had “respiratory or heart disease, obesity, or diabetes” in 94% of those cases.
They (65 and older) are not even in the workforce by and large. Target them with interventions that would let the rest of the population go back to work and back to school.
Naaaaa, let’s just burn Hawaii’s economy to the ground. Ige: “No tourists until after October….I don’t have a plan to open up the State for the past 8 months. I’m going to keep sending Government checks to all of you to stay home and watch NETFLIX”. SMH
As usual, citation needed for you claims.
What part of “per CDC website” is confusing you??

“I’m going to say what others don’t have the nerve to say. To all the Mauna Kea Protestors and all the Hawaiians that are seeking sovereignty. For those that don’t want to recognize the U.S. government as their own. Then can you kindly return your social security card to the U. S. government so they can stop issuing you you’re government social security checks, your food stamps, your welfare checks, your hud housing, and drivers license? The rest of us tax payers won’t have any problem paying less in taxes and watching you go back to planting taro and building rock wall paths for all your journeys. Extremely contradictory!! ”
Did someone say…contradictory? Mic drop.
PS to Pete:
Isn’t it about time that “Conspiracy Theories” were renamed: “Celebrations of ignorance?”
Great rename!
Thanks
Colin McCleod:
Perhaps you missed the follow up memo that although many of the deceased did have pre-existing conditions, COVID exasperated their illness and expedited their deaths.
“There were more than 161,300 death certificates that listed Covid-19 among the possible causes of death as of Aug. 22, according to NCHS. About 6% of the certificates that mention Covid-19 list it as the sole cause on the death certificate. The remaining 94% included other causes alongside Covid-19. The CDC, however, considers the underlying cause of death as “the condition that began the chain of events that ultimately led to the person’s death,” and in 92% of all deaths that mention Covid-19, the virus was listed as the underlying cause of death, Bob Anderson, lead mortality statistician at NCHS, said in a statement.”
