Yoshino Hiranaka
Yoshino Hiranaka, 93, of Lihu‘e, passed away at home on Aug. 1, 2020. She was born in ‘Ele‘ele, on Oct. 26, 1926, and retired as a customer consultant at First Hawaiian Bank.
She was preceded in death by husband Isamu Hiranaka, sister Kikuno Sakuma, and brothers Fred, Yukio and Masao Hirayama.
She is survived by daughter Crystal (Gregg) Fujikawa of Lihu‘e, son Glenn (Shauna) Hiranaka of Chino Hills, California, sister Kiyono Masaki of Honolulu, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services will be held at a later date. The family requests no koden (monetary gifts).
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens &Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
James Bo Chong Siu Jr.
James Bo Chong Siu Jr., 73, of Mountain View, Hawai‘i Island, died June 13, 2020, in Ho‘opuloa, Hawai‘i Island. Born in Pahala, Hawai‘i Island, he was a retired chef at various hotels and restaurants. He also worked at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and was a farmer.
He is survived by son Keola (Miho Ito) Siu of Lihu‘e, daughter Pua Siu of Mountain View, mother Lucy Siu of Hilo, sisters Tuck Sun Bareng of California, Vivian Mark of Hilo, Melva (Mark Crowell) Ahu of Hilo, brother Leon (Malia Elliott) Siu of Honolulu, three grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services were held.
Dodo Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
Gloria Jean Banquel Somalpong
April 30, 1945 – Aug. 2, 2020
Gloria Jean Banquel Somalpong of Makaweli passed away on Aug. 2, 2020.
She was preceded in death by husband George Somalpong, daughter Melissa Jean Somalpong, and parents Buenaventura Sr. and Theodora Alesna Banquel.
She is survived by children, spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren Carmela S. and Antonio Rapadas of Guam, Alan P. and Helen Somalpong of Hawai‘i Island, Alverna M. Somalpong and Marcos Gandia of Kaua‘i, VMelissa J. (deceased), brothers Lorencio Banquel Sr., Washington state, Ricardo Banquel of Kaua‘i, Robert Banquel of Kaua‘i and Buenaventura Banquel Jr. of Kaua‘i, sisters Veronica Dasalia of Kaua‘i, Edna and Henry Lovell of Kaua‘i, Patricia Apana of O‘ahu, Marilyn Tolbe of Boston, and Carolyn and Kaupena Kinimaka of Kaua‘i.
Last respects will be held on Saturday, Aug. 22, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary in Koloa from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., followed by 1 p.m. burial at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.
Due to COVID-19, there will be limited seating in the mortuary chapel. The use of face masks, hand sanitizers and social distancing will be strictly practiced throughout the viewing and burial.
A celebration of life will be private.

Celestina Lacuanan Tabalno
Celestina Lacuanan Tabalno, 85, of Kapa‘a, passed away at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital on July 26, 2020. She was born in Aparri, Cagayan, Philippines, on May 19, 1935, and retired from Sheraton Hotel as a housekeeper.
She was preceded in death by husband Roman A. Tabalno and grandson Alan Tabalno.
She is survived by children Florencio (Carmen) Tabalno, Caridad (Ed) Olegario, Rosalia (Robert) Roman, Nida (Dante) Peralta, Efren (Eufie) Tabalno, Ruben Tabalno, Gilbert (Crisel) Tabalno and Nadalyn (Jonathan) Corbillon, 21 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, brother Agustin Lacuanan Sr., sister Esperanza L. Fernandez, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, Aug. 29, at Aloha Church in Lihu‘e, with viewing from 8 a.m. and services at 9:15 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.

Colleen Moana Valdez, 63, of Kapa‘a, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2020. She was born Sept. 3, 1956, in Honolulu. She was a front desk worker at the Courtyard by Marriott in Waipouli.
She was preceded in death by parents Francis and Leonora Chock and brother Alan Chock.
She is survived by husband Jaime Valdez Jr., son Dustin Valdez, daughter Alexsis Valdez, brothers Gary (Didi) Chock and Lenox (Leina‘ala) Chock, sisters Dale (Glenn) Ching, Juliana (Daryl) Uejo and Monica (Bill) Carpenter, and one grandchild.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
