The 70th anniversary of the Waimea Public Library is continuing, said Michelle Young, the facility librarian and branch manager.
Stickers and bookmarks created from the special commissioned piece by local artist Marionette Taboniar have arrived and are available, Young said. These are available through the Friends of the Waimea Public Library.
Waimea Public Library opened on Aug. 1, 1950 along Kaumuali‘i Highway across from Waimea High School, and is celebrating its anniversary with a hand-made sign along one of the building’s sides.
“An anonymous donor who has supported our library previously has offered to buy ice cream for kids to celebrate the library’s 70th anniversary,” Young said. “We will pass out one coupon per child while supplies last. These coupons have no expiration date, and we will be holding some back until such time that we can do an in-person celebration.”
The Waimea Public Library has limited services available during this time of COVID-19, including library take-out, which allows library-card-holders to browse the library’s catalog to place a hold on items. Once a notice that the items are ready for pick up, the card-holder can schedule a library-takeout appointment online.
Libary-card-holders may also make online reservations to use the computers Monday through Friday during the library’s open hours.
Waimea Public Library’s temporary hours include noon to 7 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. Tuesday and Thursday hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Friday hours are from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
