Chuck Malley was his mentor
Chuck Malley was his mentor
It is with a sad heart that I learned of Chuck Malley’s passing (TGI July 28). Chuck was my mentor when I first arrived on Kaua‘i back in 1986. I was just out of college back then and had never really been on my own.
He took me under his wing and treated me like a son.
I can’t help but think that the fact that he was a staunch Notre Dame fan, which was my alma mater, had something to do with my adoption into his fold.
He and his wonderful wife Kalli always made sure I was doing well. He introduced me to the Rotary, where I met the most amazing individuals who would nurture and mold my love for Kaua‘i. At our meetings, we all knew if Chuck was in the room because you could hear his unique, booming, raspy laugh from down the hall.
I felt comforted knowing that I could turn to Chuck for anything. I remember Chuck as a lovable, fun, high-energy, tough, caring man who would give you the shirt off of his back. Thank you, Chuck, for everything. You will not be forgotten.
