LIHU‘E — Mayor Derek Kawakami, along with Mayors Harry Kim and Mike Victorino, are requesting Governor David Ige reinstate the 14-day quarantine for inter-island travel after the state reported 900 new cases of COVID-19 over the past week.
In addition to the Wednesday request, the mayors also asked Ige to allow the Neighbor Islands to remain in the “Act With Care” phase for two incubation periods, or 28 days.
That means prohibiting the reopening of all public schools and universities and the reopening of any currently closed businesses or public facilities until two incubation periods of the virus have passed, according to a Wednesday letter from the Maui Office of the Mayor to Ige.
