Alexa Jacobs had to catch a 6 a.m. flight (it’s a good thing we don’t have the Inter-Island quarantine, anymore) from Honolulu to be able and help at the packing for the Back to School Bash, Wednesday at the Kukui Grove Center, and Melissa McFerrin-Warrack was cruising the Costco aisles for snacks (was that lunch?), Tuesday night in preparation for the army of volunteers getting ready for the Saturday event.

Reigning Miss Kaua‘i Filipina Tiffany Sagucio (no, reigning Miss Hawai‘i Filipina Isabel Gampon was tied up with online classes!) is getting some real-world workouts (she was hefting two bags of groceries at a time during the Caring for Community feed during the Fourth of July!) while moving not one, but two backpacks at a time while assembling the more than 2,000 backpacks of school supplies!
Monica Belz of Kaua‘i Government Employees Federal Credit Union didn’t have her “helpers,” this time, but Dana Hazelton brought her “helper” to help after getting temperature screened by the DOE’s Nely Caberto, Jeannie Odo, and Judy Cano (that lady is a whiz at multi-tasking…opening boxes of miscellaneous school supplies to sanitizing pens — the last time we saw those was after donating to the Kaua‘i United Way!).
OK, time to check out that virtual DOE Back to School meeting, Friday afternoon, and who is going to be the first to get those Taylor Shigemoto (Hawai‘i USA Federal Credit Union) Golden Ticket for free books, Saturday?
Back to School Bash takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday!
