Why are we fighting two wars on Kaua‘i?
Gary Hooser reports in The Garden Island in one of his columns that chlorpyrifos is a nerve gas developed in World War II and “is highly dangerous to children and pregnant women.”
On Kaua‘i, we are simultaneously fighting two wars: one against COVID-19 and one against a WWII nerve gas.
Research in epigenetics shows how prenatal damage to the baby’s brain and DNA, from environmental toxicants including viruses or pesticides, can be passed on to subsequent generations though the damaged DNA, reports “Vibrant and Healthy Kids, Aligning Science, Practice, and Policy to Advance Health Equity.”
In The Guardian article published in 2015, pediatrician Carla Nelson reported there have been nine babies born in five years in Waimea with severe heart malformations requiring complex surgery. Nelson said this is more than 10 times the national rate.
TexasChildren.org in their “Development of an Evidence-Based Early Childhood Development Strategy,” reports, “Pesticides have been linked to the loss of brain architecture and cognitive impairment (Modgil 2014). Additionally, prenatal pesticide exposure is associated with a higher risk of a developmental disorder at two years of age (Eskenazi 2007). Moreover, prenatal exposure to insecticides, such as chlorpyrifos, leads to developmental delay during the first three years of life (Rauh 2006). Lastly, air-pollutant exposure results in slower brain processing speeds and ADHD (Peterson 2015).”
COVID-19 has wrecked the economy. What about chlorpyrifos? Dr. Jim Yong Kim, MD., former president of the World Bank, reported in 2016 that U.S. and Hawai‘i’s international PISA reading, math and science scores are essentially “C” grade relative to more-developed nations like Switzerland, where restricted use pesticides (RUPs) like chlorpyrifos are banned.
“Prevention of developmental neurotoxicity caused by industrial chemicals is highly cost-effective. A study that quantified the gains resulting from the phase-out of lead additives from petrol reported that in the USA alone, the introduction of lead-free gasoline has generated an economic benefit of $200 billion in each annual birth year since 1980 (Environmental Research, 1994), an aggregate benefit in the past 30 years of over $3 trillion. This success has since been repeated in more than 150 countries, resulting in vast additional savings (Lancet Neurology, 2014).”
This letter concerns the safety requirement of creating a 1/4-mile, no-spray, pesticide perimeter zone between corporate pesticide spraying and the schools and homes in Waimea and Kekaha. Dr. Lee Evslin said in The Garden Island in 2016 that “California is moving toward quarter-mile buffers around its schools.”
Why do we need 1/4-mile safety buffers? It is common sense. The study, “Effects of Pesticide Exposure on the Human Immune System,” published by Human &Experimental Toxicology, 2008, explains the immune system becomes weak from pesticide exposure. Therefore, people living in Waimea and Kekaha who may have weaker immune systems from pesticide exposure could have a higher chance of dying if they contract COVID-19.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports in “The Effects of Workplace Haazards on Female Reproductive Health” that exposure to harmful substances during the first three months of pregnancy might cause a birth defect or a miscarriage. During the last six months of pregnancy, exposure to reproductive hazards could slow the growth of the fetus or affect the development of its brain.
Exactly how much chlorpyrifos needs to breathed by a pregnant mother over several weeks or months to create irreversible (permanent) brain defects, which lower the IQ score of her child?
Dr. Qing X. Li published a four-year study in Chemosphere in 2017, which measured 35 billionths of gram/meter cubed of chlorpyrifos in the contaminated air of Waimea Canyon Middle School, which he said is safe, according to EPA standards. However, 4.39 trillionths of a gram/gram in the umbilical cord can create irreversible brain damage from prenatal exposure, determined Columbia University’s Dr. Virginia Rauh.
Which is smaller, “billionths” or “trillionths” of a gram? The larger amount, billionths of a gram, may transfer by breathing the contaminated air, into the smaller amount, trillionths of a gram in the umbilical cord, which is required for causing brain defects.
Testing pregnant rats living for months in a one-meter-by-one-meter-by-one-meter box, kept in Waimea, breathing 35 billionths of a gram of chlorpyrifos, could determine if the baby rats would have irreversible brain defects.
Furthermore, the EPA’s standards for chlorpyrifos can’t be trusted. Why? The EPA was supposed to have already banned chlorpyrifos. But in order to maximize biotech corporations’ profits, Trump is forcing the EPA to not ban chlorpyrifos, and to not ban over 50 other very-toxic pesticides which are banned in the European Union because they are so destructive.
Rauh, using magnetic resonant imaging (MRI), determined very low levels of chlorpyrifos prenatal exposure creates an “IQ interaction,” or lower IQ scores. Let’s look at exposure to Roundup in Waimea and Kekaha. Mutations Research and Reviews, published, 2019, that exposure to Roundup increases the chance of getting non-Hodgkin lymphoma by 41%.
It would be wisest for Kaua‘i and Hawai‘i legislators to do the righteous and ethical thing: mandate 1/4-mile, no-spray, pesticide-perimeter zones in Waimea and Kekaha and terminate the use of chlorpyrifos permits. Create 1/4-mile pesticide buffers and ban chlorpyrifos permits immediately.

It is clear that no residents on Kaua’i need Chlorpyrifos or any of the poisons and toxic chemicals being used on the West Side of Kauai, or for that matter anywhere on Kaua’i.
If the Mayor, applauded by those in livid fear of a flu virus, has gone to extremes thinking he is ahead of the game for a virus that is merely associated with the death of elderly people who have multiple end of life diseases and who are taking multiple end of life prescription drugs Which are made up of similar chemicals but only of a different batch and mixture of chemicals and petroleum that make the chlorpyrifos and the other dangerous and certainly unhealthy agricultural chemicals and toxic poisons used predominantly on the West side of Kaua’i but really used anywhere on the island.

It has been mentioned here in the comments some years ago that it would be good for the health of all Kauaians that all those running for Public Office sign a Candidate Contract wherein they agree to vote on certain issues facing the public and its well being. A contract wherein they agree to vote a certain way, like for or against, when an issue comes up for a vote, or else they agree to resign their elected office if they fail to follow through on their contract agreement.
Here on Kaua’i All Lives Matter, certainly the elderly do even with their end of life diseases on their end of life prescription drugs, but clearly the unborn and babies and keiki and youth deserve equal care and concern for their long lives ahead, wdeserving to be free of heart malformations and mental disabilities. And who is to care for them when the parents are passed away…the tax payer ? While the domestic and Foreign Agricultural Corporations rake in their profits and take them back to their mainland states and Foreign Countries, leaving behind mentally and physically disfigured and incapacitated, babies and children who cannot take care of themselves as they get older.

Ban the use of chlorpyrifos globally? What about the mass production of this insecticide?
As of January 31, 2020 the European Union [EU] banned the use of chlorpyrifos by revoking the permit / license to use.
Note: Chlorpyrifos was banned in Germany in 2008. Was not available in Germany in the previous 2 years before the EU ban took effect in 2020. Chlorpyrifos showed up in German food chain anyway. Mostly on citrus fruits originating from Spain. Another produce from Turkey [Non EU] tested positive also.
Since Hawaii does import most of the food/fruit/veggies from the mainland or abroad I believe a ban of the use of chlorpyrifos on Kauai is only a first step.
Afaik the EU member Denmark is testing their imported fruits and vegetables for the use of chlorpyrifos.

Brilliant Kaui high school math students, let us do the simple math and calculate can a pregnant teen in a typical Waimea school, breathing 35 billionths of a gram per a cubic meter of air, bioaccumulate the miniscule 4.39 trillionths of a gram/ gram in her umbilical cord necessary to create irreversible brain defects with loss of IQ scores for her baby. We divide the amount of chlorpyrifos in the bigger box, 35 billionths of a gram, by the number of smaller boxes, 1000. So we have 35 billionths of a gram divided by 1000 = 3.5e^-14 = .000000000000035 of a gram in each little box. Recall 4.39 trillionths of a gram = 4.39e^-12 = .00000000000439 gram are needed per gram of umbilical cord to create irreversible brain damage. The amount in the 4 x 4 ix 4 inch box is less than what is required by a factor of 125. In other words we can divide the bigger value, 4.39 trillionths of a gram, by the lessor amount in the little box, 3.5e^-14 = .000000000000035 of a gram. When we divide we get approximately 125.4. Since Corteva and Hartung Brothers have responsibly and ethically already backed far away from the towns, then any random and accidental prenatal exposures that occur anywhere in Hawii, including Kauai, should result in massive multi-million dollar lawsuits against the County of Kauai and the government of Hawaii, because they have adamantly refused to take any repsonsibility to follow through and create 1/4 mile buffer zones, as demanded by prominent and super ethical doctors. The safety of pregnant women, whether citizens or tourists, from agricultural pesticides is not being provided by by the Trump and administration, nor by any government of Hawaii. Especially all birth defects, especially in pregnant teens, from prenatal exposure to chlorpyrifos combined with other very toxic pesticides, in Hawaii, in the coming year, should result in massive multi-million law suits, like for non-Hodgkin lymphoma for Roundup, but against the State of Hawaii or County of Kauai for criminal negligence by consistently refusing to mandate 1/4 mile pesticide buffers. Obviously such law suits should not be against Corteva and Hartung Brothers, unless the birth defect is created in their female employees, in their tent camps, because they have responsibly moved their genetic engineering projects way back awy from the towns. This shows they are expecting the Hawaii government to step up to bat and fulfill their duty, rather than skip out on the baseball game. Research confirms that the DNA of sacred Native Hawaiians or anyone is damaged by pesticde exposure and passed onto subsequent generations. This is because the government of Hawaii has not protected its own people by creating 1/4 mile buffers. This may be worse than the Americans attempting to destroy the sacred Hawaiian langauge and culture, when American over threw the sovereign Kingdom of Hawaii. Therefore any lawsuits for damage to native Hawaiian sacred DNA and health should be directed against the guilty party who adamantly and consistently refuses to create 1/4 mile pesticide buffers: the Kauai County and Hawaiian State governments. Law suits should be retroactive against these state governments for years going into the future, as long as Hawaii and Kauai refuse to protect us the people from the world’s destructive most pesticides which are banned in Europe. Why does President Trump like chlorpyrifos so much? Because chlorpyrifos exterminate or obliterate all insects upon contact. Why do chlorpyrifos permits have to be banned immediately like in Europe and not kept for another year in all of Hawaii? Chlorpyrifos is the world’s most destructive pesticide and is more like a military nerve gas than a pesticide, which can slowly and systematically destroy the brains of all the people of entire nations where it is sprayed on all the nation’s food. What are the 2 main functions of chlorpyrifos that make it more like a military weapon than a pesticide? (1) First of all research shows there is direct correlation between the amount of chlorpyrifos absorbed by the pregnant mother, by breathing and eating, and the subsequent amount of brain defects in her newborn baby. Being simple and using hypothetical examples, every time the amount of chlorpyrifos in the mothers fetus doubles, the subsequent brain defects of her baby double. Every time the amount of chlorpyrifos triples in the mothers fetus, the amount of brain defects in her baby triples. If the chlorpyrifos increase by 10 in the mother’s fetus, than the brain defects in her baby increase by 10, and so fourth. (2) The second factor which makes chlorpyrifos more of a military nerve gas than an insecticide, is only very low trace, minuscule levels are required to create permanent brain defects in all babies. This is unlike Roundup, which we are all eating in the American diet, but only some of us get non-Hodgkin lymphoma, but most of us don’t, but we all suffer more or less health problems. With chlorpyrifos on the other hand, all babies get 2 main categories of brain defects from trace minuscule levels of prenatal exposures: (A) brain defects creating low IQ scores. It should be clear that the pregnant mother who absorbs 3 times as much chlorpyrifos which creates 3 times as much brain defects will have hypothetically a baby with 3 times as low IQ scores. (B) The second type of chlorpyrifos brain defect: Brain defects which are reversals of brain structures reversing normal sexual dimorphisms. In plain English, chlorpyrifos creates transgender brains. So a boy with a chlorpyrifos brain would have female sexual feelings. While a girl with a chlorpyrifos brain would have male sexual feelings. Thus it should be clear that the mother who absorbs 4 times as much chlorpyrifos will have a baby with hypothetically 4 times as much brain/sexual feeling reversals (4 times transgender brain structures). Worst of all, to simplify, a mother who absorbs 12 times as much as chlorpyrifos can have a baby with both 12 times more brain defects for 12 times lower IQ scores combined with 12 times stronger transgender characteristics. In other words, mothers in the USA who are absorbing the highest levels of chlorpyrifos are creating babies with the highest amount of brain defects associated inversely with the lowest levels of IQ scores, combined with the highest expression of transgender sexual feelings, memories, and associations. It should be clear to anybody, that chlorpyrifos could make the ultimate military nerve gas to destroy an entire nation’s intelligence scores where it is used most heavily and consistently on farm crops. This is why Dr. Jim Yong Kim, MD, former President of the World Bank, reported in 2016 that U.S. and Hawai‘i’s international PISA reading, math and science scores are essentially “C” grade relative to more-developed nations like Switzerland, where restricted use pesticides (RUPs) like chlorpyrifos are banned.
Furthermore, from a military stand point, if Russia wanted to defeat and capture the USA especially during the Covid crisis, they would tactfully convince President Trump to spray as much as possible of the world’s most destructive pesticide, chlorpyrifos, so it combines as a co-variable to higher Covid moralities. This is why Dr. Jim Yong Kim, MD, former President of the World Bank, reported in the Lancet 2010 Burden of Disease Report that all hospitals in the US and Hawaii urgently need to begin testing for all RUPs including chlorpyrifos, and other environmental toxins, to establish the co-variables to disease and disease morbidities. This would include restricted use pesticides, including chlorpyrifos sprayed by our dear xfriends Corteva and Hartung Brothers that may be co-variables to Covid19 moralities.
To sum it up, Corteva and Hartung Brothers have already very ethically backed up their operations away from the towns of Kekaha and Waimea. But Hawaii and Kauai still need to mandate 1/4 mile pesticide buffers to prevent random restricted use pesticide spraying that is occurring too close to homes on other areas of Kauai, and on the other islands. Corteva and Hartung Brothers also want this to protect their employees. Kauai should ignore Governor Ige and create their own county law to ban all chlorpyrifos permits on Kauai immediately. Governor Ige is not protecting Kauai and all of Hawaii. He is cooperating with President Trump, by insisting on extending chlorpyrifos permits for another year. Russia would be happy about this! Kauai should ignore Governor Ige and President Trump’s efforts to extend chlorpyrifos permits and become like the enlightened European leaders: ban chlorpyrifos now, immediately. No one year chlorpyrifos extensions, please. Protect Kauai like European leaders protect Europe. Perhaps Senator Hirono, Senator Schatz, and Congresswoman Gabbard can convince Governor Ige to abandon his unethical allegiance to President Trump and join more enlightened European leaders who have already banned chlorpyrifos?
