Grace Meek of Project Vision Hawai‘i (no Van during this COVID closure because no school keiki to check) joined the volunteer corps during the Wednesday lunch (Bart Thomas was long gone after packing for the Lydgate and Anini Beach sites) and Janice Bond and Jim Whitfield (he even got one of those Chef Glenn Hayakawa and Alicia Hayakawa meals to-go!) got to check their eye wear…they were surprised when they discovered they need the same strength reading glasses.
Kudos to Brian Yamamoto of the Kaua‘i Community College Cognitions program for coordinating the ulu plantings for Grove Farm (Coach Beau Acoba had to improvise his face mask because he was borrowing his brother’s truck), and more kudos to Donna Olivas Kaohi of the Kaua‘i RSVP program for getting those USDA produce boxes (they do more than a hundred each week!) to kupuna throughout the island…nope, Wilma Chandler (she makes a wicked face mask) and Clyde Furumoto are still “locked out” from helping at the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital.
OK, we’ve reached the end of the month so Saturday will be the final Police, Pastors &Platters at the Puakea Golf Course…Pastor John Cabelo is planning on reopening New Hope Lihu‘e at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center. Go check it out and thank Police Chief Todd Raybuck and the Kaua‘i Police Department on being such great partners in the free Saturday breakfasts!
