LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Police Department identified the 60-year-old Lihu‘e man who died in last Friday’s two-vehicle crash on Kaumuali‘i Highway near the Maluhia Road junction.
Gustavo Albuja Orellana was traveling westbound when he was struck by a 2015 white Nissan pickup truck heading eastbound along Kaumuali‘i Highway around 12:48 p.m. on Friday, June 19, according to a preliminary report.
The truck crossed the center line and struck Orellana’s 2000 silver Porsche 2DCV.
The incident closed the highway for about five hours.
KPD asks that witnesses to the incident contact officer Shawn Hanna at 241-1615.
This is the island’s third traffic fatality of the year.
Has the woman driving the pick up truck been charged with manslaughter yet?? If not, why not? By a crime scene analysis, the investigators should be able to figure out what happened. If she crossed over the median, she is at fault, and a man is dead.
Probably the most dangerous i intersection on Kauai. Desperate need of a traffic !ight.
A Hui Hou, Gustavo, Owner and hard worker and best friend with his wife, Amita. Most if not of all of Kauai has had him in their home, he was a granite and stone cutter and installer. His shop, Gus’s Tile is in Port Allen.
The truck that hit Gus head on needs to be held accountable, we as a public need to know, was she texting? As much information to help the living drivers on an island that has 2 lanes all the way around.
See you on the other side Gus, Blessings to your Ohana
A wonderful kind person I had the honor to know. Love and strength to his family…
