KOLOA — A crash involving two vehicles on Kaumuali‘i Highway near the Maluhia Road junction on Friday afternoon resulted in a fatality.
According to a preliminary report, at approximately 12:48 p.m., a 2015 white Nissan pickup truck, operated by a 48-year-old Kapa‘a woman, was heading eastbound along Kaumuali‘i Highway. The truck crossed the center line and struck a 2000 silver Porsche 2DCV, operated by a 60-year-old Lihu‘e man, who was traveling westbound.
The driver of the Porsche sustained fatal injuries.
The driver of the truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Wilcox Medical Center, where she was treated and released.
The highway reopened at about 5:15 p.m.
The name of the driver of the Porsche has not yet been released due to pending notification of next of kin.
Kaua‘i police are asking anyone who might be a witness to the incident to contact officer Shawn Hanna at 241-1615.
This is Kaua‘i’s third traffic fatality of 2020.
