Thank You Kiley Momohara
You being a highly trained lifeguard, I feel like you saved me from getting badly hurt or even killed. I was hiking on Monday June 15th into Hanakapiai Falls to possibly avoid the tourist rush when our island reopens to the mainland. As a lifelong resident, I have been to Hanakapiai and Kalalau several times only this particular day was very special. My wife and i had gotten up early to drive to the trail head and it was a perfect day for an adventure.
We had a great time and the trail was beautiful. I guess the long rest from overuse was good because even the rocks to cross the stream weren’t too dirty. On our way back about a mile before the end of the trail, i tripped on some rocks and went over the side of the cliff. Luckily, my back pack caught on a ti leaf plant saving a long slide to the ocean!
Kiley, you heard me fall and ran to help my wife get me off the cliff and back up on the trail. We are very grateful that you were there helping locals and visitors even when it was your day off and you were just out for a hike! Thank you again! Without our first responders, we might all experience some very bad days.
