Kudos to Aaron Swink of the state Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Aquatic Resources on taking care of the free, grab-and-go ocean learning kits because Jean Souza is on “telework” because of the COVID-19 stay-at-home order.
Aaron said he’s a fly fisherman from Texas, and is learning Hawaiian-style fishing. He’s also getting ready for trout season that opens Saturday, June 20 (hurry and apply on the DAR website. The application deadline for the lottery is this Friday, June 12). He also wants to check out the Nawiliwili Yacht Club’s annual Father’s Day Keiki Fishing Contest (it’s a catch-and-release event except for the legal-sized food fish). Hopefully, the COVID-19 curve holds its course…keeping my fingers crossed.
Mary Lardizabal lost her crew while checking out lunch, and Sara Miura got some of the left-over grab-and-go ocean learning kits to pass out at the Deja Vu Surf Hawai‘i in Kukui Grove Center because she was worried the Kaua‘i Ocean Discovery center would still be closed on World Oceans Day.
