What was the confusion about National Donut Day? Thank heaven for Pohai Jardin of Kamehameha Schools, who drove all the way to Kaumakani and the Aloha Sweet Delight for donuts for the Lihu‘e crew (kudos to Bricen Moritsugu and all the troops) to enjoy (Daylight Donuts was sold out, and so was Kaua‘i Bakery). The Salvation Army “paused” the observance that was supposed to take place Friday because of the response efforts for COVID-19, instead asking for monetary donations at the 7-Eleven 11 checkout canisters or online to The Salvation Army.

That didn’t stop Janice Bond from delivering donuts to the Kaua‘i Police Department, the Kaua‘i Fire Department, the Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency, the Prosecuting Attorney’s office, and the American Medical Response offices.

More food distribution goes on as Joell Edwards (gotta check out Jim Edwards’ COVID project that just got new tires) of Malama Kaua‘i got a visit from state Rep. Dee Morikawa (happy retirement, Ken Morikawa) who rolled up her sleeves (and Naomi Francisco’s, too) to distribute CSA (community-sourced agriculture) food packages at the Koloa site Thursday.

David Thorpe had the limited service at the Koloa Public/School Library popping on all cylinders, and Sydney Nice (remember her from Kapa‘a High School?) is spending her summer working with Malama Kaua‘i.
