PRINCEVILLE — The owners of Princeville Resort, an affiliate of Starwood Capital Group, a global private-investment firm, and East West Partners, the development company coordinating the renovation of the hotel, are collaborating with local nonprofit organization Re-use Hawai‘i to recover and redistribute furniture and other items from the resort to local nonprofit organizations and the public.
The recovered furniture will be donated to Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity, Hale Halawai ‘Ohana Hanalei, Women in Need, Kaua‘i United Way, Kaua‘i Humane Society, The Storybook Theatre of Kaua‘i, a few charter schools, and others.
The remaining items are now available for sale by Da Warehouse in Lihu‘e via its Facebook page. Items include king and queen bed sets, dressers, loveseat couches with pull-out beds, nightstands, table lamps and mini refrigerators, to name a few. Princeville Resort employees will be able to purchase items from Da Warehouse at a 30% discount. Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Hanapepe also has some of the items for sale to the public.
Additionally, a portion of sales proceeds from Da Warehouse will be donated to nonprofit organizations on behalf of Starwood Capital Group.
“We are pleased to donate and make available for sale the hotel contents that will not be used after the renovation, to keep items out of the landfill and meet the needs of the community through furniture and monetary contributions,” said Jason Cruce, vice president of hotel development at Starwood Capital Group.
“And, for Kaua‘i families in need of furniture, they’ll be able to find beautiful, quality items for their homes,” he said.
“Soon, anyone who wants to can have a piece of the old Princeville Resort in their own homes.”
Re-use Hawai‘i Executive Director Quinn Vittum added, “We are so pleased to be working with the resort on this impressive project. It enables us to fulfill our mission of waste reduction, and provides an affordable resource to the community.”
Renovation of Princeville Resort is slated to begin this month with local contractors, including Layton Construction Company as the general contractor. The hotel plans to reopen in late 2021 as 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay. The nature-inspired, LEEDv4-certified property will feature 252 rooms, including 51 suites, a wellness center and an 18,000-square-foot spa and fitness center. Five food and beverage outlets will offer fresh, local and sustainably sourced farm-to-table cuisine using ingredients from the hotel’s organic on-site garden and neighboring farms.
