Herbert N. Kurisu
Herbert N. Kurisu passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on March 18, 2020, at the age of 90. He was born on Oct. 17, 1929, in Lihu‘e. He was a veteran with U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War, and a refrigeration mechanic.
He was preceded in death by parents Kazuto and Tane Kurisu, daughter Carol Morimoto, sister Lily Kurisu, and brothers Francis Kurisu and Harold Kurisu.
He is survived by wife Yaeko Kurisu, sons Alvin Kurisu of Honolulu, Robin Kurisu of Kaua‘i, Daniel (Reina) Kurisu (Reina) of Kaua‘i, grandchildren Michael and Shawn Morimoto and Raiden and Triton Kurisu, brothers Richard Kurisu (Betty) of Honolulu and Lawrence Kurisu of Kaua‘i, sister Jane Kuriki of Kaua‘i, and son-in-law Roy Morimoto of Kaua‘i.
Private services were held. The family request no koden (monetary gifts_.
Garden Island Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
Lolita Galingan Mabini
Lolita Galingan Mabini, 73, of Lihu‘e, passed away on March 17, 2020. Born on Oct. 24, 1946, in Tayug, Pangasinan, Philippines, she was a retired accountant from Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by parents Emilio and Epefania Ballesteros Galingan and brother Danny Galingan.
She is survived by husband Romie Mabini, sons Rodney and Kirk Mabini, daughter Lori Mabini and sister Wilma (Trini) Raval, grandchildren Bryson and Brianne Nagamine, Ramah Jr., Jahnaiah and Saigejah Wong-Mabini, Rozalyn, Roelene, Kasalie, Rjaee and Jensen Mabini, great-grandson Brysten Nagamine, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private burial services were held Tuesday at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
David Ruiz
David Ruiz of Kalaheo passed away on April 10, 2020, at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home at the age of 91. Born in Kaua‘i on Dec. 2, 1928, he served in the U.S. Army, and was a Korean War veteran.
He was a retired superintendent at the U.S. Navy Pacific Missile Range Facility, and a gunsmith.
He was preceded in death by parents Frank and Pilad Ruiz and brother John Ruiz.
He is survived by wife Patricia Ruiz, sons Matthew (Brenda) Ruiz, Gerard (Kelli) Ruiz and Mark (Donnel) Ruiz, brothers Alfred ” Freddy ” (Doris) Ruiz, Frank Ruiz Jr. and Guy (Pricilla) Ruiz, sisters Lucy Kanoa, Marie Lewis and Catherine Martin, seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Alberto M. Nidea Sr.
Alberto M. Nidea Sr., 94, of Kapa‘a, passed away at Garden Isle Health Care on April 5, 2020. He was born in Camalig Albay, Bicol, Philippines, on Nov. 21, 1925, and retired from Kaua‘i Nursery & Landscaping.
He was preceded in death by wife Beatriz Obong Nidea, grandson Cres Ramos Jr. and great-great-granddaughter Aaliyah Rose Ramos.
He is survived by daughter Becky (Cres) Ramos Sr., son Alberto (Sherry Ann) Nidea Jr., grandchildren Danvic Ramos and Glen Ramos, great-grandchildren Marie Ramos and Alana Ramos, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private burial services were held at Kealia Cemetery. Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
