David Aguiar
On April 4, 2020, our dear brother David ascended into the arms of an angel as God called him to return home. David Roy Aguiar of Kaua‘i blessed us with 51 beautiful years.
He was preceded in death by Shirley L. Aguiar and Meleana Keli‘iheleua.
He is survived by father LeRoy Aguiar, brother August L. Aguiar, spouse Jade Aguiar and family, sisters Nadine M. (Bryan K.) Pruitt and family, Carol T. (Billy) Ramos and family, Norma Dale Imada, Russell N. Oyama and family, Yvette L. Joseph and family, and numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends of Kaua‘i, O‘ahu, Maui, Kona, California, Utah, Australia and Texas.

Patricia ‘Pat’ Marie Hillegonds
Patricia “Pat” Marie Hillegonds, 68, of Lihu‘e, passed away at home on April 21, 2020. She was born in Indiana on Oct. 15, 1951, was a retired registered nurse and was employed with St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church as the outreach director.
She was preceded in death by parents George and Viva Hillegonds, brother Glenn Hillegonds and sister Norine Wagner.
She is survived by sisters Linda (Judd) Rinsema of Arizona and Cindi (Gary) Dobbs of Indiana, hanai children Anais Falantin James of New York and Aymeric Falantin of France, sister-in-law Maxine Hillegonds, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be announced at a later date.

Paul Tasuku Matsunaga
Paul Tasuku Matsunaga passed away on April 16, 2020, in ‘Ele‘ele, at the age of 85. He was born on July 12, 1934, in Lihue. He was a Vocational Rehabilitation administrator.
He was preceded in death by parents Isuke and Tsuru Matsunaga, brothers Seichi Ogata and George Matsunaga, and sister Grace Humphrey.
He is survived by wife Arline Matsunaga, son Scott Matsunaga (Dorma Pakalana) of Lihu‘e, daughter Doreen (Elpidio) Cadavona of O‘ahu, grandchildren Kellianne Cadavona (Daniel Jones), Tyler Matsunaga and Sarah Matsunaga, brothers Maui (Beatrice) Ogata and Harold (Rose) Matsunaga, sisters Beko Hironaka and Sachi Chang, and sister-in-law Yoshie Ogata.
Services will be held at a later date.

David Ruiz
David Ruiz of Kalaheo passed away on April 10, 2020, at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home, at the age of 91. Born on Kaua‘i on Dec. 2, 1928, he served in the U.S. Army, and was a Korean War veteran.
He was a retired superintendent at the U.S. Navy Pacific Missile Range Facility, and a gunsmith.
He was preceded in death by parents Frank and Pilad Ruiz and brother John Ruiz.
He is survived by wife Patricia Ruiz, sons Matthew (Brenda) Ruiz, Gerard (Kelli) Ruiz and Mark (Donnel) Ruiz, brothers Alfred “Freddy” (Doris) Ruiz, Frank Ruiz Jr. and Guy (Pricilla) Ruiz, sisters Lucy Kanoa, Marie Lewis and Catherine Martin, seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Sumie I. Garcia
Sumie I. Garcia, 90, of Lihu‘e, passed away at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home on April 9, 2020. She was born in Hawai‘i on Sept. 30, 1929, and retired as a department manager at Foodland.
She was preceded in death by husband Manuel Garcia Jr., brothers Toshikazu Ishida, Thomas Ishida and Yoshito Ishida, and sister Masako Tamura.
She is survived by son Alan (Charlene) Garcia of Lihu‘e, grandson Michael Garcia of Lihu‘e, granddaughter Lianne Adam of Las Vegas, brother Henry (Grace) Ishida of Lihu‘e, sister Shirley Ishida of Honolulu, sister-in-law Alice Garcia of Hanama‘ulu, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services were held. The family requests no koden (monetary gifts).
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Kimberly Noela Napohaku
Kimberly Noela Napohaku passed away on April 14, 2020, in Honolulu, at the age of 49. She was born on Jan. 8, 1971, in Waimea. She was a cook.
She was preceded in death by parents Robert Napohaku Sr. and Mutsue Napohaku, and sister Peggy Napohaku.
She is survived by brothers Robert Napohaku Jr. of Hanapepe and Francis Napohaku of Hanapepe, nephew Brandon Napohaku of Hanapepe, and numerous uncles, aunts and nieces.
Services will be held at a later date. The family suggests aloha attire and welcomes flowers.

Michael Kauwe
Michael Kauwe passed away on April 5, 2020, in Kalaheo, at the age 54. He was born on Sept. 21, 1966. He was an employee of Da Solar.
He was preceded in death by mother Roselind Edwina Kauwe Decker, father Michael Hirahara, grandmother Rose Kauwe and cousin Edmund “Ed” Kong.
He is survived by wife Sue Yen Kanani Rita, sons Kingsron Mikaia Kauwe and Charlotte Ka‘auamo of Kalaheo and Kaylob Michael Nakoa Kauwe of Kalaheo, father Dwight Lukeia Decker Sr., brothers Melvyn and Geraldyne Hirahara of Honolulu, Lukeia and Johanna Decker of Waimea, Hawai‘i Island; sisters, Misty Key and Francis Mossman of Waimea, Hawai‘i Island, Melissa and Robert Landers of Waimea, Hawai‘i Island, Barbrarose Decker of Waimea, Hawai‘i Island, Naomi Decker and Donald Gates of Waimea, Hawai‘i Island, Chacha Hirahara of Honolulu, Roxeann Hirahara of Honolulu, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Asako Kanagawa Nakata
Asako Kanagawa Nakata passed away on April 3, 2020, at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home at the age of 94. She was born on July 12, 1925 in Wahiawa, Kaua‘i. She was an office manager.
She was preceded in death by husband Kazuo Nakata, parents Otsuichi and Masayo Kanagawa, brothers Hisatoshi Kanagawa, Tsuneo Kanagawa and Sakuni Kanagawa, and sister Hisae Akagi.
She is survived by sons Kevin (Katsuko) Nakata of Pearl City, O‘ahu, and Michael (Ellen) Nakata of Lawai, grandchildren Kris (Corey) Nakamura, Tracy Mari Nakata, Greg (Kathi) Nakata and Kale (Jasmine Wong) Nakata; great-grandchildren Ethan and Ridge Nakata and Kate and Trey Nakamura, brother Donald Yasu Kanagawa of O‘ahu, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services will be held. The family requests no koden (monetary gifts).

Helen Irene (Ollis) Huff
Helen Irene (Ollis) Huff, age 78, formerly of Kaua‘i, passed away in her home with family by her side on April 14, 2020, in Valparaiso, Indiana.
She was born in Hammond, Indiana, on Nov. 21, 1941. She moved to Kaua‘i in 1972 and made it her home for the next 20 years while married to Ira C. Huff III. While living on Kaua‘i, she was a pharmacist at Wilcox Hospital, West Side Pharmacy, ‘Ele‘ele Clinic and Kalaheo Clinic.
She was preceded in death by parents Aaron and Margaret Ollis.
She is survived by husband Ira, son Eric Huff of El Paso, Texas, daughter Margaret (Roberto Levy) Huff of Kapolei, O‘ahu, stepchildren Kevin (Patti) Huff of Lawai, Keith (Shauna) Huff of Broomfield, Colorado, and Pamela (Laurence) Santistevan of Englewood, Colorado, sister Barbara Ruth Muskin of St. John, Indiana, numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Colorado and Hawai‘i, and her feline “baby” Kitty-Kitty.
There is no scheduled funeral service at this time. The family will schedule a celebration of life some time in the future when gathering allows.
