Among the shoppers waiting in the heat to enter Costco were Rhonda Moore and Amber Silverman, debating about the merits of evolution versus creationism and hoping to stock up on toilet paper.
Both Moore and Silverman came to Costco in hopes to get what they need to stay at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, and had a few opinions about how Costco should be running things.
“I think it [the Costco line system] is a little shotty to be honest ,” Silverman said. “I feel like if they are going to make people stand out here for 45 minutes, they should be giving people time limits inside of the store to get in get your stuff and get out. It is not a huge store like Alamoana, it does not take four hours to fill up your cart. This is Costco.”
Almost everyone in line waited for almost an hour under the hot sun and most were scrambling for water or a cold drink at the food court.
Claire Valley Domine from Hanapepe, was wearing a hat and her mask as she waited in line.
“Bring water and shade,” Valley Domine suggested. “We probably were in line for about 50 minutes. I took the bus to get here. I haven’t been here for two weeks. I have toilet paper, I just need some groceries so I don’t have to come back for a couple of weeks. I love Costco, I actually work for CVS, we just got laid off. “
Moore and Silverman were just two people away from getting into the store, when one of the Costco clerks dropped some bad news: “We have no more toilet paper.”
“Just two more people, and we could have had a chance,” said Moore in a disappointed voice.
Lines reached around the building at Costco over the weekend as designated family members went out in search of supplies to restock during the stay-at-home order.
how about require everyone to show a shopping list before they are let inside and/or maybe have a small pop-up tent with paper and pens for folks to make a list if they do not have one….. to keep the shoppers focused on what they need ?
maybe this might help and keep folks off the random aisles of “non -essential” stuff they sell at Costco…
we appreciate Costco and glad they are open, but its kinda easy to get distracted once inside !!!
do we really need a 3 pack of Boogie boards right now !! ??
Why are you showing a picture of people not practicing social distancing at Costco?
Even “better” would be to have each shopper stand or sit on one of the flat carts. The cart is then pushed by a National Guard soldier who pushes them along a path of yellow, or maybe blue, tape on the floor which ONLY goes through the food, toilet paper and vitamin sections or other sections pre-approved by Kawakami. The customer has to grab what they need from the moving cart. If they miss or forget something, or change their minds, they go have to start again at the end of the line. When the cart is full, they are DONE. If they cough or touch their face, they are DONE. If they try to grab a non-essential item, like socks, they are DONE. No bathroom stops “aloud”. Piping jazz music on high throughout the store will make people think twice about going there more than once a month.
Sound like fun? Do you like living under totalitatian facism? What other absurd, pointless rules can we propose….I have CHOKE rules that I have been working on.
You ever think about running for politics? Please tell me more about your rules…
“Among the shoppers waiting in the heat to enter Costco were Rhonda Moore and Amber Silverman, debating ****about the merits of evolution versus creationism and ****hoping to stock up on ****toilet paper. ” It can be good story for new American satiric like great Mark Twain, but situation is too seriously. I agree, that problem #1 with stores and soon will, unfortunately, more, that many people do not keep social distance in this store too… *****Looks administration of stores must do strong control, REPEAT AGAIN AND AGAIN AND MONITOR SUCH KIND violations at their stores.
What if you could email Costco with your shopping list and a Costco employee could fill your cart and have it waiting for you to pick it up? Pay on line, show your card and order number when you get there, verify cart contents and leave. It would drastically lower unintended contact.
