LIHU‘E – Kaua‘i police arrested on Monday Matthew Davidson, a 46-year-old with no permanent address, for burglary in the first degree.
Kaua‘i Marriott Resort security contacted Kaua‘i Police Department (KPD) Dispatch around noon on March 28 to report a potential trespasser on a property at Kalapaki Circle in Lihu‘e.
According to a preliminary report, the suspect had already fled the scene before police arrived. Upon entering what was supposed to be an unoccupied residence at the time, police found the home in disarray, appearing to have been lived in for a number of days by the suspect.
Besides trespassing on private property, Davidson also allegedly stole numerous items from the home.
Davidson is currently being held in cellblock and is awaiting arraignment. He is charged with committing a class c felony and additional charges may be forthcoming.
“We want to remind the public that crimes committed during emergency proclamations can have enhanced fines and sentencing,” said Capt. Paul Applegate. “KPD will be actively safeguarding people’s homes and property during this time of emergency and criminals will face stricter punishments for any violations. We’re not taking this lightly.”
