HONOLULU — The Hawai‘i State Public Library System has been working on measures to support the health of local communities.
In compliance with Gov. David Ige’s third supplementary proclamation regarding COVID-19, the system is making the following changes to services:
• All public library locations and bookmobile services are suspended through May 5;
• All book drops are closed. Patrons should hold on to library materials until libraries open again.
Library materials
• Due dates and holds have been automatically extended;
• All items (including DVDs and HotPicks) checked out on or after March 16 have a due date of May 13;
• No fines will be charged for items due between now and May 6. For requests for holds that haven’t been filled yet, the system is extending the requests;
• For holds that are already waiting at the libraries, the system is extending holds to May 13 so items may be picked up after reopening;
• All email notifications are turned off right now. Notifications will resume upon reopening;
• No new holds will be taken until reopening.
Library cards
• Library cards with $10 or more in fines and fees will still have access to all of the resources online. All library cards that have expired will be extended, and can be renewed upon reopening.
Online resources
• Librarieshawaii.org is available, with resources available 24/7. The online collection includes:
• eBooks and eaudiobooks;
• Digital subscriptions to newspapers and magazines, New York Times;
• Online classes;
• Online language learning;
• Many online resources for homework, recreation and research.
