Reading books at home a silver lining in COVID-19 cloud
Reading books at home a silver lining in COVID-19 cloud
What a great opportunity these troubled times are for education at home! Every family should go to the library and get as many books as possible and hunker down at home to read together. You could read books alone, and every evening you could read as a family. Pick a book packed with adventure, a classic such as “A Tale of Two Cities” or “The Wind in the Willows.” Each family member could read a chapter out loud every night, so everyone’s speaking skills as well as reading skills get lots of practice. Libraries could put book exchanges outside so everyone could participate.
I grew up in the ‘60s on the tip of Cape Cod with no neighbors, no television and long winters. It was in those years my love of books began. So many adventures waiting to be discovered. And so much teaching and learning would be done. A silver lining on the cloud of COVID-19.

Trump should have gotten WHO virus test kits
Why did Trump not use the World Health Organization COVID-19 tests (from Germany) that all of the rest of the world has been using? Why did Trump insist that we use a U.S. Big Pharma test and have a delay of a more than a month on testing, while South Korea was doing 10,000 tests a day? This test delay has caused us a lack of information and a lack of response to a serious world-health threat. And why is no one asking about this?

Libraries are closed in my state…another source of disease spread, both from person to person contact as well as the books themselves. Hope you have some good books on your selves already.
Kindle is a resource that anyone can use to get the book titles i mentioned. Excuses are something i hear daily from supposed warriors, who know the difference between normal flu season and the current scare tactics. What is dangerously obvious is the methods that are being used like the military momentum that created a bulls eye on Kauai via umbilical cord to Cali Vandenberg AFB launch ballistic missiles, like the “oops” phenomena and Pacific Missile Range Facility intercepts these many testings. Every day is a bit more striking than the day before. Kekaha ground percussions from the base and the constant barrage of Chaff, microwaves out from NASA, and now USAF is playing in this hood with god knows what kind of killing machines or peeps that fire em up! THIS kukai is what should be EXcluded in this “martial law” setting starting tonight 9pm to 0500 hours every day “until further notice”! Boring!
Because Trump was way ahead of WHO, the Congress, and all those who criticized him for taking massive action by restricting all travel to and from China etc., as an “over-reaction”! His handling so far in this catastrophe is worthy of thanks, appreciation, and support. That one action he took, in the face of so many criticizing him for it, has saved many thousands of American and “illegal” alien lives! Thank you President Trump for all you’re doing for our Country!
Now we know you also post as “nothing”s free”. I guess the red wave is just one person!
Italy had a total ban on China flightss 4 days before trump’s loophole rich restrictions. It didn’t for Italy!
Even in the face of overwhelming incompetence and criminal negligence on the part of this con man shyster president, his cultish followers persist in defending him! Man, how Trump has managed to plumb the depths of credulity in the American psyche like no one since PT Barnum. Today he mocked the governors of various states for having the temerity to look to his administration for leadership. “What do they think we are, shipping clerks?” he taunted, when they pleaded for help with medical supplies. That’s right Donald, in the midst of a crisis that you neglected to prepare for and mocked as a ‘Democrat hoax,’ feel free to berate rather than encourage, to mock rather than inspire, to come up short when the tide rolls out. Because at least if you remain consistent the few adults left in your administration might find ways to work around you, and the rest of the country can hold that image of your true colors come election time—if there’s anything left worth voting for when you’ve finished your tour of damage. ….Or should we call it carnage?
If you had any sense or knew anything about upper respiratory illnesses, you might consider the normal flu season has been placed on “steroids”, by none other than the same peoples you voted for, the occupier evil leaders, and still not having exposed the thousands of the other ‘guilty Kealoha power couple stolen mailbox’. You condone that you all continue to support and vote in liars, that maneuver, manipulate, and all the naughty boys and girls complicit with fraud, on this generation and seven before.
Since a lot of those affected, law of averages, will parish in this flu season OR you can thank the governments who started this fake pandemic, as THEY did with the fake American corporate, unable or cannot show us in real time, The treaty of Annexation.
If anything comes of this so called flu, at least the system has broken, there are so many “Epstein” marks on the foreheads of those chosen to pay to play.
Trump supporters have been repeating the fantasy spread by Trump that he took a bold step to reduce travel from China and was criticized because of it. The fact is that airlines had already largely suspended service by the time Trump acted, and he was constantly lying (what he always does) that the virus would miraculously disappear. He then admitted, in a rare moment of clarity from his diminished brain, that he had no idea that the flu killed people. This is an adult man in his 70’s who didn’t know the flu killed people, even through it had killed his paternal grandfather.
After doing everything imaginable to play down the virus, he’s now lying (again, all he does) that he was the first one to predict a pandemic.
The most remarkable thing here is not the relentless, ongoing failure of Trump and his lifelong pattern of fraud and pathological lying. Rather, it’s that Trump is able to get any Americans to believe his lies. Trump is a weak, reckless imbecile, and his late start on preparation for this pandemic to protect himself politically is responsible for killing Americans. Every single person who voted for him shares that responsibility.
Whose “country”? Did you mean like our county of Kauai or Hawaiian Kingdom Nation UNincorporated?
ahahaha, way ahead???
He said the virus would magically go away!
He said it was not as bad as the flu!
He is still way behind other countries and many of our own politicians in his thinking. Thank heavens for Fauci, or Trump would still be telling us to take ibuprofen!
Good thought about the library books…except one thing: they closed all the libraries. I guess we will all have to read from those horrible tablets instead of using real books. Oh well, could always be worse. We’ll make the best of a bad situation.
Yeah, Jeanette! Reading books is definitely a winner at any or every curve in this life. I wonder if you are related to Stephen Kinzer, who wrote the book ‘Overthrow’? A must read and share also, are J Kauanui book ‘ Hawaiian Blood’ or Benish ‘ The Fifth Seal’. ‘Kpd Blue’, ‘Superferry chronicles’, all of which outliine how we in Hawaii-nei have gotten into this worldwide mess, now pandemic.
Also, Joyce Meyer, Everyday bible identifies passages that Joyce explains in detail. Revelations 3:15, ‘Step out and find out’ is my favorite. Uhane Hemolele is the “planning director” for All and everyone who has not been paying attention is going to “pay to play”
Why trump didn’t accept the WHO virus tests could have lots of reasons: It could make his ‘hoax’ claim look stupid as it was, it could make the US look as unprepared as it was, it would have taken some actual thinking to realize we needed those test kits.
Why didn’t Trump do all of those things?
Because he stupidly thought the virus was like the flu. He was misinformed.
Looking back isn’t going to solve anything. We need to activate and look ahead.
“Stupidly” Are you a doctor? You are the misinformed one and everyone who thinks like you are also hugely misinformed! Try look at what the u.s. military is doing around the globe, but specifically on Kauai! They and all their benefactors placed a large bulls eye that anyone with a ballistic missile can launch toward, and there is no amount of chaff that would deter that sort of hit! The entire archipelago would be DEstroyed in seconds. Besides that, where were we supposed to go and be safe? NO where! Did i make it clear, “Ballistic”!
I think reading books is a good thing. I’m not sure what the situation is like in Waimea. But where we’re from, it is the city life all the way. There are about 300,000 people in about 10 miles radius of 2 points. So you can see how how crowded it is. More sites, more people. Some may find books in these type of situations awkward. I kind of like reading for the fun. Plus it keeps my mind active. I’m for you Debra. I like reading all kinds of books. I just through finishing my 40th novel by Michael Connelly. 9 Dragons. This in a 3 year period. I do it to keep my mind active. Plus, I like the stories in them. You know?
Plus in the book there is a young 29 year old Chinese girl I like. She’s my friend. In real life. Anyway this friend is like this character in the book. Mia Ling Li. She lives at home with her parents. She takes care of them in South Los Angeles. She’s a 2 year college attendee. But dropped out to take care of her parents. She lives with her older brother too. Interesting tales of event.
Trump is a moron, plain and simple.
Why is this letter getting printed? It has no facts, our libraries are closed. Yes reading is great. Its called kindle, or order on Amazon. We had a bookstore they shut it down. Obviously a letter from someone who isn’t a Kauai regular. Are there no other letters in the que from actual Kauai people? Take another look in the pile. GI. Further Trump? Praise? Tell that to the over 200 people who have died already. oh wait. you can’t they are dead. And don’t start with that “but the flu”, statistics. This isn’t the flu. Trump disbanded the Pandemic Task force. Because Obama. His hate caused all this. He called it a hoax for 8 weeks. Do not start that “No he didn’t he called the media hoax bs. ”
Tell that to the doctors and nurses who will die becasue they dont have PPE that they need and are being told to make it themselves. When this is all over, the poeple who0 caused the most suffering will be humbled by the people.
I wrote one LTE about the section 8 and keeping a grandma and grandaughter from homelessness, but it appears we are relegated as self employed, receive 12k per year and GET wants 4.7% returned per the county. I was inquiring per letter to editor to try and receive information of others who have section 8 roommates!
I don’t think he was misinformed at all! His behavior has bordered on criminal when it comes to covid19 pandemic. Just like everything else but our lives are in danger on this “Hoax”. Not until the markets started sliding did he get real and even then he has been just bad. Arguing with Dr. Fauci? I wonder if someone “informed” him if he didn’t test Americans the numbers of infected would be low? Nevermind the death count. Beginning to look that way, I’m afraid in frightening times. As you protect yourself you protect others.

Here is the Worst case scenario.
WITHOUT MITIGATION, the new coronavirus pandemic could kill as many as 2.2 million people in the U.S., according to a report from the Imperial College of London Covid-19 Response Team. Even taking critical steps such as social distancing of the entire population, isolation of the sick in their homes, and quarantining family members of the sick, the epidemic will likely soon overwhelm the critical care capacity of American hospitals, according to the report. The British researchers told the New York Times that they shared their findings with the White House task force on the virus “about a week ago.”
