HONOLULU — The Honolulu-based Aloha Council of the Boy Scouts of America recently named Jesse Lopez as the new Scout Executive/CEO of the 110-year-old nonprofit.
Lopez succeeds Jeff Sulzbach, who is now the Scout executive/CEO of the Greater Los Angeles Area Council.
Lopez will oversee Scouting programs throughout Hawai‘i, Guam and America Samoa, and will be responsible for the administration, program delivery and fund development of the organization that serves approximately 11,000 scouts.
“After a comprehensive nationwide search process, the board is pleased to have selected Jesse Lopez,” said Mike Ching, president of the Aloha Council board of directors.
“I am very honored and excited to be joining the Aloha Council team,” said Lopez. “The Aloha Council has a great community of Scouts, more than 4,000 registered adult volunteers and a talented management team. The opportunity to lead this next chapter is exciting, and I’m humbled to be part of it.”
Lopez began his scouting career as a district executive in the Monterey Bay Area Council in Salinas, California. He moved on to become the senior Exploring executive and later district director with the Pacific Skyline Council in San Mateo, California.
He was promoted to field director of the Golden Empire Council, Sacramento, and on to director of field service at the California Inland Empire Council. Most recently, he was Scout executive of the Southern Sierra Council in Bakersfield, California.
The Aloha Council delivers Scouting programs to over 11,000 boys and girls in Hawai‘i, Guam and American Samoa. Founded in Honolulu in 1910, the Aloha Council offers five programs: Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA (formerly known as Boy Scouts), Sea Scouts, Exploring and Venturing.
The Scouting programs are supported by more than 4,000 adult volunteers, including parents, friends, community organizations and corporations.
