‘King of the Na Pali Coast’ Patrick T. Ku Malama
Patrick T. Ku “Paddy Boy” Malama passed away on Feb. 12, 2020, at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waimea.
He was born on March 30, 1944, in Waimea, and was a longtime TV cable installer for Derby Cablevision and Kaua‘i Cable.
He was preceded in death by parents Joseph and Lucille Ku Malama, sisters Elaine Parker, Blubelle Kaowili, Barbara Westerdale, Kapio Ilae and Alma Nerez, brothers Joseph Malama Jr., Llwellyn Malama Sr. and Vernon Malama, and grandson Cyrus Malama Carveiro.
He is survived by wife Pinky Ruth Momilani Leoiki Malama, sons Patrick “Kanani” (Tammy Takamura) Malama of Waimea and Jaime Malama of Kekaha, daughters Roberta “Pua” (Chucky) Remata of Kekaha, Raenette (Alton) Lopez of Kekaha, Jackie (Preston) Lee of Kekaha, Lolly (Mel) Malama of Kekaha, and Desiree “Des” (Daniel) Kittredge of Waimea, grandchildren Pomai (Mackey), Kai (Nicole), Jaecie (Javin), Anu, Brandee (Sheldon), Byrlynn (Shane), Nakoa, Taryn (John), Tisha (Justin), Tylan, Tyran (Jocelynn), Kaelin (Ivy), Leann (Chase), Jessica (Tyler), Geon, Reese and Anais, great-grandchildren Mikaylah-Jade, Keiran Sage, Baelee-Rose, Meliyah-Grace, Teivan, Nevaeh, Kingsley, Camron, Michael, Kainalu, Kamaehu, Kaliko, Ezra, Qhaysen, Qhaiyah and Kaio, hanai sons Burt Shimabukuro, Kahalau Leoiki, John (Jodie) Kona, hanai grandchildren Tiare Ruiz, Kawahine and Kahia‘ai Palama, brothers Billy (Leona) Malama of Oregon and Edmund Malama of ‘Ele‘ele, sister Abigail Estacio of Hanamaulu, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life is Saturday, April 11, with viewing from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Kekaha Harbor House, with services to follow.
Eugene Cambe Ballesteros
Eugene Cambe Ballesteros of Koloa passed away on Feb. 2, 2020, at the age of 96.
He was born on Nov. 7, 1923, in Umingan, Pangasinan, Philippines, and was a field irrigator at Kekaha Sugar Company.
He was preceded in death by parents Semeon and Semeona Ballesteros, former wife Eufemia Badua Ballesteros, son Onofre Ballesteros and daughter Josefa Zabala.
He is survived by wife Meledrina “Meling” Mateo Ballesteros, son Gerardo (Fe) Ballesteros, daughters Josefina Fortunato, Lydia Segundo, Lourdes Kono and Gloria (Domingo) Panday Jr., 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services are Thursday, Feb. 27, at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church in Waimea, with visitation at 8:30 a.m. and service and Mass at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at Kekaha Public Cemetery.

Virginia R. Lopez
Virginia R. Lopez of Kalaheo passed away on Jan. 22, 2020, at the age of 89 at her home in Kalaheo.
Born on March 6, 1930, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by father Frank Rapozo, mother Jubina Lopez, husband Raymond Lopez, son Wayne Lopez, and daughter Karen Suarez.
She is survived by daughters Lucille (Mark) Dotimas and Vicky Soares, and one grandchild.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo, with visitation at 8:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens in Lihu‘e.

Mariann Lois Silver
Mariann Lois Silver left this life as a 74-year-old courageous woman. She battled lung cancer with a brave heart for a year and a half until she died on Nov. 21, 2019.
Marianna, as she liked to be called, had a heart that cared, and she always found something to laugh about. She was known for her great generosity of spirit. Even in her last days she thought more about others than she did of herself. She lived on Kauai from 1979 to 2009. The natural beauty of Kaua‘i gave her great joy.
She was a Realtor with Century 21 and Sleeping Giant, and a presenter of the Aloha Peace Project in the public schools. She was a busy substitute teacher the last 10 years in Sonoma County, California. She graduated from Sonoma State University with a geology degree.
She had a beautiful smile that lit up the room. With her wonderful, playful spirit she knew how to enjoy children wholeheartedly. She lived on the edge to feel the exhilaration of fun, cared deeply for the health of the planet, and tried to live her life by living sustainably.
She is survived by brother Barry Silver and friend Dorota Rzymska in Culver City, California, and her cousin Mary Norvell in Santa Monica, California.
She was preceded in death by parents Raoul and Odelle Silver.
She will be missed by her good friend Kathy and her Kaua‘i ‘ohana.
Her celebration of life is Saturday, March 7, at Koke‘e Lodge, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Ikaika Kanani Lazaro
Ikaika Kanani Lazaro passed away on Feb. 16, 2020, at Kekaha, at the age of 20. He was born on Nov. 13, 1999, in Waimea, and was a groundkeeper at the U.S. Navy Pacific Missile Range Facility at Barking Sands.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Damiano (Gundy) and Althea Lazaro, maternal grandparent David Manners, grandmother Suzette Bali, and uncle Damien Lazaro.
He is survived by parents Leroy Kanani and Annette Lynette Lokilani Lazaro of Kekaha, siblings Janae Lazaro of Kekaha, Lynette Lazaro of Hanapepe, Kaimana Lazaro of Kekaha, Chaeri (Victor) Valdes of Florida, Latoya (Yuvanni) Torres of Washington, Leann (Jade) Lazaro Ikeda of Washington and Mana Rosa of Kalaheo, grandmothers Mary Blackstad of Colorado and Sapphire Engstrom of Wai‘anae, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are Saturday, Feb. 29, at Garden Island Mortuary, with visitation from 9 to 11 a.m., celebration of life at 11 a.m., with burial to follow at Kekaha Public Cemetery.
The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Mitsue Y. Kataoka
Mitsue Y. Kataoka, 97, of Kapa‘a, passed away at home on June 3, 2019. She was born in Kapa‘a on Dec. 1, 1921, and was a teacher at Wilcox Elementary School.
She was preceded in death by parents Umajiro and Matsu Yukimura, and sisters Hisayo Akama, Chiyoko Kato and Yuriko Nanbu.
At the time of her passing, she was survived by her husband of 73 years, Kaname “Bob” Kataoka (deceseaed Dec. 28, 2019).
She is survived by sister Kimie Ozaki, daughters Joy (Jim Patton) Kataoka and Amy Boyd, granddaughter Kimi Patton, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of lives is Saturday, March 14, at Lihue Christian Church, with visitation at 9 a.m. and services at 10 a.m.

Kaname ‘Bob’ Kataoka
Kaname “Bob” Kataoka, 101, of Kapa‘a, passed away at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital on Dec. 28, 2019. He was born in Paia, Maui, on Oct. 21, 1918, and retired as a teacher at Kaua‘i High School.
He was preceded in death by wife Mitsue Y. Kataoka, brothers Isamu Kataoka and Masao Kataoka, and sister Tsuruko Yamato.
He is survived by daughters Joy (Jim Patton) Kataoka and Amy Boyd, granddaughter Kimi Patton, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of lives will be held on Saturday, March 14, at Lihue Christian Church, with visitation at 9 a.m. and services at 10 a.m.
