Kalena Park
When the public is playing basketball, the balls tend to bounce onto Rice Street. Does the county have any plans to install a chain-link fence to improve safety at this location?
No immediate changes are planned. Long-term improvements are being planned by the community where this can be addressed.
Hanama‘ulu
Does the county have future plans for a park on the mauka side of Hanamaulu? There appears to be a site that has been cleared by the county. Residents are concerned about the overgrown vegetation in the area under the county’s control. Can the county please address the vegetation overgrowth?
The County of Kaua‘i only recently learned that this area is under its jurisdiction. Known as Palani Park, the county cleared the site at the urging of nearby neighbors concerned about fire and safety hazards. The site was covered with a kiawe bush and encroachments. As part of the clearing, the county also surveyed and fenced the site. Since then, vegetation has started to regrow. Crews continue maintain the area.
