Julia Ornellas Souza
Julia Ornellas Souza, 88, of Kapaa, passed away at home on Feb. 3, 2020. She was born in Kilauea, on June 14, 1931, and was a dedicated homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Souza Sr.; parents John and Marian Ornellas; sisters, Mabel Ebinger, Regina Ventura, Mary Ornellas; brothers, Albert Ornellas, Joaquin Ornellas, Johnny Ornellas, Joseph Ornellas and Patrick Ornellas.
Julia is survived by 5 children, Laurie Souza, Russell (Vernalyn) Souza, Stanley Jr. (Hollie) Souza, Paul (Adi) Souza, Jerry (Shaunne) Souza; 11 grandchildren, Kayla Souza, Rustan (Tracy Ogihara) Souza, Christy (Keola) Wong, Brittney (Tovi Boiser) Morrow, Bryson (Natalie) Morrow, Ryan (Mia Soderstrom) Morrow, Stanley William Souza III, Chelsea (Randy) Lawrence, Megan (Kristopher Jarquio) Souza, Taybree (Bryson Ancheta Suganuma) Souza, Ian Souza; 14 great-grandchildren, Leilanna Wong, Kailea Wong, Kaiwi Wong, Briana Morrow-Lopez, Tavyn Boiser, Brody Boiser, Baylee Boiser, Khairah Lawrence, Kyryn Lawrence, Isaiah Jarquio, Khloe Jarquio, Maya Jarquio, Kaeden Souza, Brysten Ancheta; sisters, Theresa Martins, Pauline Fernandes, Catherine Ornellas BVM, Eva Hieronymus; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020, at St. Catherine Church with visitation from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Family graciously declines flowers.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Kenneth D. Reese
Kenneth D. Reese, 75, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Dec. 26, 2019. Kenny served in the National Guard before working for Harris Electric as a master electrician until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his mother Florence McCullough; father George Reese; stepfather Pete McCullough; sister Jane Brock; wife Connie Williamson Reese.
He is survived by his sister Sandra Gattuso; son Shawn Reese (Dana); his three grandchildren, Brett, Miya, Jacob; many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Kenny’s life will be held at Koloa Missionary Church on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. Please, no koden.
Manuel Balauro Sr.
Manuel “Maning” Balauro Sr. passed away at age 92 on Feb. 1, 2020, in the Philippines. He was born on June 13, 1927, in Abra, Philippines. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired as a Licensed Practical Nurse/EMT from Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH).
He is survived by his wife Lydia Balauro; sons, Arthur (Kim) Balauro of Waiahole, Manuel Jr. “Sonny” (Anna) Balauro of Omao, Terrence Balauro of North Carolina; daughters, Corinne (Joe) Queja of Mililani, Melva (Richard) Arakaki of Koloa, Betty “Bay” Pearson of Mililani. He was blessed with 18 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held on Feb. 23, 2020, in Banqued, Abra, Philippines.
Mark Peter Coller
Mark Peter Coller of Oakland, California, passed away on Dec. 15, 2019, at the age of 59. Born on April 24, 1960, in Quezon City, Philippines, he was a retired Harley-Davidson mechanic in California and a mechanic/machinist in the state of Washington.
He was preceded in death by his father Richard Coller; mother Alicia Coller; sister Margarite Coller; brother Louis Coller.
He is survived by sisters and brothers, Ann (Kevin) Arnold; James Coller; Katherine (Perry) Alisna; Susan (Dennis) Akutagawa; William (Roxanne) Coller; Claire Coller (Robert Beck); Ruth (Mark) Forbes; Patrick (Yukimi) Coller; numerous nieces and nephews.
Private family services will be held.
Delfin ‘Del’ Noel Gandia
Delfin “Del” Noel Gandia, 65, of Waipahu, went home to the Lord on Jan. 22, 2020. The fourth child of the late Orpiano and Loretta Nelmida Gandia, of Hanamaulu, was born on Dec. 24, 1954, in Lihue. He was a retired food service representative.
He is survived by wife Janice (Sugino) Gandia; daughter Dayna K.H. Jones of Florida; son Jared A. Gandia of Waipahu; granddaughter Bryana Yuriko Onalani Jones; grandson Henry Kekoa Jones; sisters and brothers, Pam (Greg) Sokei, Gay Ann Gandia, Gabriel (Gayanne) Gandia Sr., Emily (Bo) Fabro, Dalton (Cheryl Espanto) Gandia. Also survived by Uncle Bonifacio Gandia, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Oahu services will be held on Monday, Feb. 17, 2020, at Mililani Mortuary Mauka Chapel. Private family viewing at 4:30 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m. for visitation. Memorial service at 6 p.m. Family suggests aloha attire. No flowers. Leis are welcomed.
Kauai services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, at Lydgate main pavilion. Visitation at noon. Celebration of Life at 1 p.m. Fellowship to follow until 5 p.m. Familu suggests casual aloha attire. No floral arrangements. Loose flowers and leis are welcomed.
Charles Lester Trembath Jr.
Charles Lester Trembath Jr., age 90, peacefully passed away in his home on Dec. 24, 2019. Born in Sheridan, Wyoming ,on Jan. 9 1929, raised in Colorado and moved to Kaua’i in 1971.
Charles served our country as a Sergeant in the Army Signal Corps during the Korean War. After his service he became an electrical engineer and continued to serve the government in communications. At 56 years of age he retired as Engineer in Charge at WWVH in Mana, Kaua’i. Retirement lead him to Kaua’i Lagoons where he worked as a Golf Marshall. Lovingly known as Uncle Chuck, he was a musician for Aunty Healani’s Hula Halau and spent much of his time with the Alu Like Kupuna.
Preceded in death by his parents Charles Lester Trembath Sr. and Julia Toro.
He is survived by his wife Opal “Healani” Trembath; his sister Charlene Longacre; along with 6 children, Christina (Steve) Pilkington, Carma (David) Lovely, Erin (Bob) Imhoff, Kristi (Claurino Bueno) Lee, Rick (Michelle) Lee, Debbie (George) Jackson; 20 grandchildren; 27 greatgrandchildren.
We will be celebrating his life on Feb. 22, 2020, at Prince Kuhio Park (5061 Lawai Rd, Koloa). Service to start at 11 a.m. and celebration to follow. Please wear aloha attire to honor his love of the Hawaiian culture.

Yon U. Raposas passed away on Jan. 28, 2020, in Waimea, at the age of 81. She was born on Dec. 25, 1938, in Seoul Korea. She was a Sous Chef.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jose Raposas; grandsons. Michael Kunio Iida. Kyson Contrades; father-in-law Cerilio Raposas; mother-in-law Rosalina Raposas.
She is survived by her son Robert (Jeanne) Raposas of Waimea; daughters, Teressa Han Iida (Derwin Nohara) of Kalaheo, Kauai Shelley (Kamaka) Contrades of Anahola,; grandchildren, Kainoa Raposas, Bryson Cadawas, Kyle Contrades, Stetson Raposas, Kameron Contrades, Sheena Raposos, Mark Kunio Iida, Deedriana T. Nohara, Davin Nohara, Michael Nohara; great grandchild Nakoa Raposas Wilson. Great-grandchildren, Kayden Libre, Jayden Ortiz, Zayvin Raposas, Zaylen Raposas, Naia Love Shimogawa, Brennen Cadawas, Amaia Cadawas, Andrew Arruda-Contrades, Ayden Nohara, Cheyenne Nohara; great grandchild Teiva Hesapene.
Services will be held at Garden Island Mortuary on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020, with visitation from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and service at 10:30 a.m. Family suggests casual attire. Flowers welcome.

Allen ‘Shige’ Michioka
Allen “Shige” Michioka, 93, of Lihue, passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Jan. 23, 2020. He was born in Kealia, on Nov. 13, 1926, and retired as a Postmaster from USPS.
He was preceded in death by his parents Yakichi and Tomeyo Michioka; son Cory Michioka; grandson Ethan Okuhara.
Allen is survived by his wife Hilda Michioka; son Blaine (Jeane) Michioka; daughters, Cheryl (Stanley Okuhara) Michioka, Lauren Michioka; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Allen’s life will be held on Feb. 16, 2020, at Kauai Veteran’s Center. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. with services to follow at 5 p.m.

Eugene Joseph Farias
Eugene Joseph Farias passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 18, 2020, at the age of 66. He was born on Aug. 4, 1953.
He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Farias.
He is survived by his wife Jodie Farias; sons, Micah (Corilee) Farias of Oahu, Jonah Farias of Kauai, Noah Farias of Kauai; mother Ethel Farias of Kauai; sister Joanne (George) Coates of Virginia; brother Elroy (Darlene) Farias of Kauai; grandchildren, Josiah Farias, Emi Farias; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts of condolence.

Gary Steven Humphrey
Gary Steven Humphrey fell asleep on Jan. 27, 2020, at the age of 60. He was born on Dec. 31, 1959, in Long Beach, California to the late James Miller Humphrey and Ava Marie Hall. He was a carpenter by trade and was employed at Stonetree Construction.
He is survived by his wife Janeen Humphrey; son Shea (Jonna) Fabiana; granddaughters, Rylee and Zoee Fabiana; sister Annette Delgado of Yucaipa, California; brothers, Jim (Bonnie) Humphrey of Houston, Texas, Rick (Rosie) Humphrey of Yucaipa, California; nieces and nephews as well as extended family.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held on Friday March 6, 2020, at the Kauai Veterans Center: 3215 Kapule Hwy. Lihue. Visitation begins at 4:30 p.m. Casual attire requested.
