Kenneth D. Reese
Kenneth D. Reese, 75, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Dec. 26, 2019. He served in the National Guard before working for Harris Electric as a master electrician until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by mother Florence McCullough, father George Reese, stepfather Pete McCullough, sister Jane Brock and wife Connie Williamson Reese.
He is survived by sister Sandra Gattuso, son Shawn (Dana) Reese, grandchildren Brett, Miya and Jacob, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is at Koloa Missionary Church on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 4 p.m.
The family requests no koden (monetary gifts).
Helen Esplana Watson
Helen Esplana Watson passed away on Dec. 28, 2019, at the age of 94.
She was born on Oct. 26, 1925, in Lihu‘e, and was retired from the hotel industry.
She was preceded in death by mother Bernardina Iban and father Alejandro Esplana.
She is survived by daughters Cecilia Suan (Lloyd) Bond, Cileen Suan (Myron) Yamashita, Virgina (Victor) De Peralta, Norma Watson (John) Ross, Rose “Loke” Watson (Rudy) Notebo, Davilyn Watson and Veronica Texeira, sons Ceasar Esplana Suan and Harold Esplana (Juliette Tapacio Sarmiento) Suan, sisters Pastora “Patsy” Torres, Maria “Mary” Gonsales and Euphemia “Darlene” Steaveson, 21 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Feb. 22, with visitation at 10 a.m. and services at 11 a.m. at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary, 3168 Po‘ipu Rd., Koloa.
A celebration of life will also be held in Hilo on Sunday, March 8, at 1 p.m. at Soka Gakkai International-USA Buddhist Center, 695 Makalika St.
Mark Peter Coller
Mark Peter Coller, of Oakland, Calif., passed away on Dec. 15, 2019, at the age of 59.
Born on April 24, 1960 in Quezon City, Philippines, he was a retired Harley-Davidson mechanic in California and a mechanic and machinist in the state of Washington.
He was preceded in death by father Dr. Richard Coller, mother Alicia Coller, sister Margarite Coller and brother Louis Coller.
He is survived by sisters and brothers Ann (Kevin) Arnold, James Coller, Katherine (Perry) Alisna, Susan (Dennis) Akutagawa, William (Roxanne) Coller, Claire Coller (Robert Beck), Ruth (Mark) Forbes and Patrick (Yukimi) Coller, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private family services will be held.
Marie Mahuiki Inouye
Marie Mahuiki Inouye passed away on Feb. 5, 2020, at her residence at the age of 87.
She was born on Jan. 22, 1933, in Ha‘ena, and was a food prep cook.
She was preceded in death by husband Toshiyuki F. Inouye, and parents Laurence and Racheal Mahuiki.
She is survived by sons Dickson (Sandra) Inouye of Kaua‘i, Miles (Naomi) Inouye of Oregon and Brian (Suzanne Quin) Inouye of Georgia, daughter Candace (James) Kashiwabara of Kaua‘i, eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, brother Samson Mahuiki Sr. of Ha‘ena, sister Ruth Luka Mahuiki of O‘ahu, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are Sunday, Feb. 9, at Garden Island Mortuary, with visitation from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and funeral discourse at 11:30 a.m.
The family suggests casual attire, and welcomes flowers.
Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Manuel ‘Maning’ Balauro Sr.
Manuel “Maning” Balauro Sr. passed away at age 92 on Feb. 1, 2020, in the Philippines. He was born on June 13, 1927 in Abra, Philippines. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired as a licensed practical nurse and emergency medical technician from Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by wife Lydia Balauro, sons Arthur (Kim) Balauro of Waiahole, Manuel Jr. “Sonny” (Anna) Balauro of ‘Oma‘o, and Terrence Balauro of North Carolina, daughters Corinne (Joe) Queja of Mililani, Melva (Richard) Arakaki of Koloa and Betty “Bay” Pearson of Mililani, 18 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2020, in Banqued, Abra, Philippines.
