Lawrence ‘Blackie’ Mitsuo Asai
Lawrence “Blackie” Mitsuo Asai, 82, of Kapa‘a, passed away on Jan. 28, 2020. He was born in Kapa‘a on March 17, 1937.
He was preceded in death by parents Sukeichi and Aeno Asai, grandson Clayton Kangiser, niece Cindy Asai and nephew Albert Asai Jr.
He is survived by companion Coco, mother of his children Midge Kaneholani Asai, daughter Naomi Asai, sons Larry (Caroline) Asai, Lionel (Janet) Asai, Keone (Christel) Asai and Lyle Asai, 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, brothers Daniel (Lillian) Asai and Albert (Katy) Asai, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Feb. 8, at Kapa‘a Jodo Mission, beginning at 1 p.m. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Matsuyo Seki
Matsuyo Seki, 95, of Lihu‘e, passed away at the Regency of Puakea on Feb. 2, 2020. She was born on Kaua‘i on Jan. 4, 1925, and retired as a secretary in the administrative office of ILWU Local 142.
She was preceded in death by parents Matsuji and Kawayo Maeda, husband Hisashi Seki and eight siblings.
She is survived by sisters Myra Koide and Edith (Kenneth) Abe, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her celebration of life is Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Lihu‘e Hongwanji Mission. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with services to follow at 11 a.m. Inurnment will take place at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home at 2 p.m.
The family requests no koden (monetary gifts) or flowers.
