Ernest Pops Palmeira
Ernest ‘Pops’ Palmeira
Ernest “Pops” Palmeira passed away on Jan. 8, 2020, at the age of 90. He was born on July 9, 1929, in Wailua Homestead. He was a musician and rancher on Kauai. Ernest served in the Korean War.
He is preceded in death by his parents John and Daisy Palmeira; brothers, Antone, John and Walter Palmeira; grandson Wesley Palmeira.
He is survived by Alice G Palmeira; sons, Alan (Sandra) Palmeira, Gary (Carol) Palmeira, Warren (Abby) Palmeira; daughter Adele Palmeira Shinn; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapaa on March 7, 2020, with visitation from 8 to 10 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be held at later date.
Borthwick Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Yon U. Raposas
Yon U. Raposas passed away on Jan. 28, 2020, in Waimea at the age of 81. She was born on Dec. 25, 1938, in Seoul Korea. She was a Sous Chef.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jose Raposas; grandsons, Michael Kunio Iida, Kyson Contrades; father-in-law Cerilio Raposas; mother-in-law Rosalina Raposas.
She is survived by her son Robert (Jeanne) Raposas of Waimea; daughters, Teressa Han Iida (Derwin Nohara) of Kalaheo, Shelley (Kamaka) Contrades of Anahola; grandchildren, Kainoa Raposas, Bryson Cadawas, Kyle Contrades, Stetson Raposas, Kameron Contrades, Sheena Raposos, Mark Kunio Iida, Deedriana T. Nohara, Davin Nohara, Michael Nohara; great-grandchildren, Kayden Libre, Jayden Ortiz, Zayvin Raposas, Zaylen Raposas, Naia Love Shimogawa, Brennen Cadawas, Amaia Cadawas, Andrew Arruda-Contrades, Ayden Nohara, Cheyenne Nohara.
Services will be held at Garden Island Mortuary on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020, with visitation from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and service at 10:30 a.m. Family suggests casual attire. Flowers welcome.

Carmen Pia Rivera passed away on Jan. 11, 2020, in Waimea, at the age of 63. She was born on Jan. 9, 1957, in Lihue. She was a retired License Practical Nurse.
She was preceded in death by her parents Pedro Agustin Visitacion and Pia Cadabona; brother Marcy Visitacion; sister Trinidad Visitacion.
She is survived by her husband Roland B. Rivera; daughters, Rachael (Nathan) Rivera-Wong of Seattle, Washington, Crystal (Richard)) Kalauawa of Lawai: grandchildren, Noah Wong, Maya Wong, Emma Wong, Ela Kalauawa, Aria Kalauawa; sister Esther (JR) Estes of WaImea.
Services will be held at Garden Island Mortuary on Friday, Feb. 7, 2020, with visitation from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and a Celebration of Life at 6:30 p.m. Family suggests casual attire, flowers welcome.

Melchora Cadiz Domingcil
Melchora Cadiz Domingcil, 97, of Lihue, passed away at Garden Isle Health Care on Jan. 25, 2020. She was born in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on Jan. 6, 1923, and was a dedicated homemaker.
Preceded in death by her husband Emilio Domingcil and 4 siblings.
Melchora is survived by her daughter Carlina (Andy) Acupan; grandchildren, Donnabel (Jamie Moniz) Acupan, John Acupan, Norman Acupan; great-grandchild Dante K. Moniz; brothers, Rosalino (Bibiana) Cadiz, Dominador (Maria) Cadiz; sisters, Feliza Tangonan, Evarista Sagisi, Maria (Victor) Acojido, Josefina (Marcelino) Dela Cruz; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

Montgomery Liholiho Pia
Montgomery Liholiho Pia, of Kapaa, passed away on Jan. 13, 2020, at the age of 66. Born on Feb. 24, 1953, in Lihue, he was a member of the Painters Local Union 1791.
He is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Mecuria Pia.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years Marilyn A. Pia; son Troy (Crystal) Pia; daughters, Natasha (Kukui) Pia Kamake‘eaina, Tristel (Brandon) Pia Salvador; sister Lynette Mc Comas; brother Gilmore “Bozo” (Sharon) Pia; 11 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, at Saint Catherine’s Catholic Church, Kapaa with visitation 8 a.m. and Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Luncheon to follow
Karen Anne Liberman
Karen Anne Liberman, 77, of Kapaia, passed away at home on Dec. 19, 2019. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on Feb. 6, 1942, and was a licensed Hair Stylist and Massage Therapist.
Karen was a Beverly Hills Hair Stylist from 1964 to 1976 where she also modeled for T.V commercials and magazines. She styled hair and makeup for movies and actors including Richard Dryfuss in Jaws and Anthony Herraras in the Young and the Restless to name a couple. After moving to Kauai in 1976 she opened and operated the “Hair Kare Saloon” in Puhi and “Hair Kare Salon” in the former Hilton Hotel in Lihue while also doing hair and makeup for movies and weddings.
She was active in hiking and dancing and blessed the lives of thousands of friends on Kauai and around the world and was blessed by each of them. She always had a positive mind and loving heart.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents Marion “Ted” and Kay Shanks.
She is survived by her brother Ted (Cathy) Shanks; nephews, Justin Shanks,Troy Shanks; grandnephew Jacob Shanks; grandniece Jenavi Shanks and her life partner Scott Lever.
A Celebration of Life will held Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020 on Maalo Road (1/4 mile up road to Wailua Falls in Kapaia) at 11 a.m. Signs will be posted.
Lawrence ‘Blackie’ Mitsuo Asai
Lawrence “Blackie” Mitsuo Asai, 82, of Kapaa, passed away on Jan. 28, 2020. He was born in Kapaa, on March 17, 1937.
Preceded in death by his parents Sukeichi and Aeno Asai; grandson Clayton Kangiser; niece Cindy Asai; nephew Albert Asai Jr.
Blackie is survived by his companion Coco; mother of his children Midge Kaneholani Asai; daughter Naomi Asai; sons, Larry (Caroline) Asai, Lionel (Janet) Asai, Keone (Christel) Asai, Lyle Asai; 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, Daniel (Lillian) Asai, Albert (Katy) Asai; numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, at Kapaa Jodo Mission beginning at 1 p.m. A private inurnment will be held at a late date.

Kenneth D. Reese
Kenneth D. Reese, 75, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Dec. 26, 2019. Kenny served in the National Guard before working for Harris Electric as a master electrician until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his mother Florence McCullough; father George Reese; stepfather Pete McCullough; sister Jane Brock; wife Connie Williamson Reese.
He is survived by his sister Sandra Gattuso; son Shawn Reese (Dana); grandchildren, Brett, Miya, Jacob; many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Kenny’s life will be held at Koloa Missionary Church on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020 at 4 p.m. Please, no koden.
Christine Bisarra Peciller
Christine Bisarra Peciller, 48, of Henderson, Nevada, and formerly of Kekaha, passed away on Aug. 25, 2019, at TLC Care Center Henderson. Born May 12, 1971, in Manila, Philippines, she was a table dealer at Green Valley Ranch Station Casino and Palazzo Casino.
She is preceded in death by her mother Lydia G. Bisarra.
She is survived by her brother Michael (Lorissa) Bisarra of Lakewood, Washington; numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, at St. Theresa Church in Kekaha. Visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. and prayer service at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Kekaha Cemetery.

Wilson C. Dagdag passed away on Jan. 9, 2020, at his home at the age of 57. He was born on Feb. 13, 1962, in the Philippines. He was a restaurant steward.
He was preceded in death by his father Aurelio Dagdag Sr.
He is survived by his wife Avegail L. Dagdag; mother Maria C. Dagdag; brother Aurelio Dagdag Jr. of New Hampshire; sisters, Luz D.
