PRINCEVILLE — The group dedicated to preserving and maintaining the Princeville fountain is growing.
Just before their third Friends of the Fountain meeting, set for today, organizer Ellene Grace said the group, which was about 20-strong, has grown by 16 more people.
Friends of the Fountain’s estimates are that it costs a monthly average of $3.87 per homeowner in Princeville 2 to cover the fountain’s operation.
The fountain has been central to the Princeville entrance since 1991, commissioned by former Princeville Mirage resort owner Christopher Skase after a vacation to England in the late 1980s.
It was deeded to the Princeville 2 Homeowners Association in 2010.
After calculating needed repair costs for the fountain at about $20,000, the group formed and already has gotten a few anonymous donations to help with the project — one to the tune of $10,000.
A big part of the repairs list are for cracks in the foundation of the fountain and the pump-room ceiling. Grace and her husband Leonard are donating some labor and materials for fixing cracks in the fountain, about $12,700-worth. Leonard Grace owns a waterproofing and restoration company.

We love “Friends of the Fountain”! Some people care about the Fountain (it makes them feel more successful as they drive into their homes), and others couldn’t care less (they don’t care). Problem solved! Those who join the Fountain Friends divide up the cost between them and pay for their desire for rich feelings. Those who couldn’t care less, keep struggling in your life and go to the beach as often as possible to enjoy Kauai’s real beauty! Everyone is happy.
