LIHUE — In celebration of the day of Prayers for the Unborn, a group of people collected along Kuhio Highway, just west of the Macy’s in Kuki Grove Mall, waving signs protesting abortion last week.
The Prayers for the Unborn rally was one of many that are held across the nation, at various times and locations, mostly attended by Catholic church members the event was also a chance to gather and say a prayer for unborn children.
The Kauai event was held Wednesday, attended by a handful of people and attendee Terri Mansfield said the response they got from drivers along the highway and those in the community was positive.
She also said this rally was unique, because it involved believers from other faiths.
“Several children joined parents and grandparents, to hold signs and wave at the passing cars. Lots of friendly horn honking and shaka waving occurred. Many of us recited the rosary. Some attendees were from a local Baptist church, so it was a powerful testament to interfaith,” Mansfield said.
Joining pastor Fr. Anthony Rapozo and Mansfield were other members of St. Catherine of Alexandria parish in Kapa’a. Other Kauai Catholic Churches were also represented including Immaculate Conception in Lihue and Holy Cross in Kalaheo.
