Elizabeth ‘Bea’ Ebinger
Elizabeth “Bea” Ebinger, 73, of Kapaa, entered eternal life on Dec. 12, 2019, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lihue on April 13, 1946, she was a linen attendant at Plantation Hale.
She was preceded in death by husband Hitcliff “Bully” Ebinger, parents Andres and Elizabeth Leilani Polan, sister Judy Spencer, and brothers Andrew and Joseph Polan.
She is survived by sons Jonathan (Michelle) Apana and Joshua (Michelle) Apana of Kauai, James (Noelani) Apana III of Oahu, Joseph (Charla) Apana and Jeremiah Apana of Washington, sister Mary Alice (Rupert) Rowe, brother Tuffy (Lorna) Poe, all of Kauai, grandchildren Kristy, Darshell, Austin, Jon-Alan, Jeresen, Desiree, David, Kaimi, Kendra, Momo, Shambree, Abigail, Joshy, Kapono, Kawai, Eli-Ray, Ashley, Lindsey, Iokepa and Makaio, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Kapaa Assembly of God Church, with services at 10 a.m.

Takeshi ‘Take’ Yamamoto
Takeshi “Take” Yamamoto, 91, of Kapaa, passed away peacefully and entered the pure land on Dec. 16, 2019. He was born in Wahiawa, Oahu, on May 20, 1928.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He lived a full life as a farmer, fisherman and business man.
He was preceded in death by parents Yoshimatsu and Tsuru Yamamoto, and brothers Toshio, Larry and Mitsuo Yamamoto.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Betty Yamamoto, children Brian (Wendy) Yamamoto, Diane (Mark) Kobayashi, Gary (Else) Yamamoto and Harry (Patricia) Yamamoto, grandchildren Shari, Andrew, Alison, Brandi, Nicholas and Anela Yamamoto, brother Ramon (Akiko) Yamamoto, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, at Kapaa Hongwanji Buddhist temple, with visitation at 9 a.m. and service at 10 a.m.
The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.

Jacqueline ‘Jai’ Roberts
Jacqueline “Jai” Roberts, 71, of Kapahi, peacefully passed away on Dec. 9, 2019, in her beloved Kapahi home. Born on June 15, 1948, in Ottawa, Canada, she was the daughter of John Arthur Roberts and Muriel Elizabeth Pettigrew.
She was preceded in death by parents John and Muriel Roberts and sister Deborah “Debbie” Elizabeth Roberts.
She is survived by her daughter Julianne “Julie” Moye Mai, son-in-law Savino Torea Mai, grandchildren Hanavai Pua’ora, Maluhia Meherio, Temerahi “Tajee” Torea, and Tehani Vahine Moonbow Mai of Kilauea, sister Virginia “Ginny” Lenore Blair of Martintown, Ontario, and brother Donald “Don” Kensington Roberts of Vancouver, Canada.
A celebration of life will be held at The Kauai Ranch, 6782 Hauaala Rd., Kealia, on Saturday Jan. 18, at 11 a.m., with visitation, service, sharing, music and potluck lunch to follow. Casual, colorful attire is requested by the family.
Mitsuko Ho‘okano
Mitsuko Ho‘okano passed away on Dec. 22, 2019, in Waimea, at the age of 90.
She was born on March 15, 1929, in Waimea, and was a licensed practical nurse.
She was preceded in death by husband Isaac Kaleialoha Liko Mokihana Ho‘okano, parents Kataro and Kiku Sano Kimura, brothers Torao Katada, Hisashi Kimura, Shinge Kimura, Haruo Kimura, Tamotsu Kimura and Maseru Kimura, and sisters Agnes Yaeko Kimura and Esther Yachiyo Woods.
She is survived by sons Aaron (Stella) Ho‘okano of Honolulu, Isaac Liko (Debra) Ho‘okano of Kekaha, hanai son Keith Kimura of Honolulu, daughters Leah (Patrick) Pereira of Kekaha, Prellna (David) McGee of California, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, sisters Tomiko (Daniel) Akuna of California and Yoshiko (Donald) Young of Honolulu, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, in Lawai at Garden Island Mortuary, with visitation from noon to 1 p.m. and services at 1 p.m., with lunch to follow.
The family suggests aloha attire, and will accept loose flowers and lei.

Helen Mae Lacono
Helen Mae Lacono went to rest on Dec. 16, 2019, surrounded by the love of her ohana, in Camarillo, California.
She worked at her restaurant, the Hanapepe Cafe, and was known as “The Soup Lady” of The Shops at Kukuiʻula culinary farmers’ market.
She was preceded in death by parents Beulah and Edward Molle, sister Debbie Swaim and beloved husband Andy Lacono.
She is survived by daughters Maria (Ken) Ito and Andrea (Galen) Kaohi, grandchildren Kuʻuleinani Breen, Anuhea Breen, Kenji Ito, Wailenalena Kaohi and Galen E. Kaohi, great-granddaughter Punohu Vigilia, and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
Her memorial service is at the Kekaha Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 8833 Kaumuali‘i Hwy., at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, with a celebration of life to follow at Hanapepe Cafe, 3830 Hanapepe Rd., at 4 p.m.

Olsen Louis Ebinger
Olsen Louis Ebinger of Balston Spa, New York, passed away at Saratoga Springs Hospital, New York, at the age of 68.
Born in Lihue on June 15, 1951, he was raised in Anahola.
He was preceded in death by father George Ebinger and mother Marie Garcia Ebinger, and brothers Gilbert Ebinger and Hitcliff “Bully” Ebinger.
He is survived by wife Lori Shultz, daughters Melissa (Matt Timm) Ebinger-Timm of Hanamaulu, Sonya (Stephen Phelps) Ebinger-Phelps of Murrieta, California, son Barry Ebinger of Murrieta, California, sister Flo Munkacsi of Wailua Homesteads, brothers Hughes Ebinger of Anahola and Keith Ebinger of Lihue, three granddaughters, three grandsons, one great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.

Angela Lorraine Tavares
Angela Lorraine Tavares of Kalaheo passed away on Jan. 5, 2020, at the age of 93, at Hale Kapuna Heritage Home in Omao.
Born on Sept. 12, 1926, in Eleele, she was a retired housekeeper at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by parents Joseph and Frances Moura, husband Joseph Tavares Jr., son Joseph Sidney Tavares, brother Clarence Moura, and grandson Wallace Michael Tavares.
She is survived by sons Wallace “Wally” (Dinah) Tavares and Thomas “Tommy” Tavares, brothers Wallace (Violet) Moura and Albert (Dorothy) Moura, sister Frances Freitas, grandchildren Warren (Tasha) Tavares and David (Monica) Tavares, and great-grandchildren Hunter, Shaelyn, Jadynn, Chole, Cali Tavares, and Jaysha and Jayann Hualama.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Feb. 1, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo, with visitation at 8:30 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow at Kauai Veterans Center in Hanapepe.

Jacob Iacoba ‘Moody’ Maka
Jacob Iacoba “Moody” Maka lost his battle with cancer on Dec. 9, 2019. He was born on July 29, 1958, and was a former employee at Makai Course for 32 years. He was also in the Army National Guard for several years, stationed in Ft. Benning, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by parents Murphy Kuaihealani Maka Sr. and Rebecca Ka‘aumoana, sister Henrietta Bond, brother Keith “Fetta” Maka, and sisters-in-law Leslie Maka and Linda Kanahele.
He is survived by brothers Murphy “Bobo” (Ann Marie) Maka and Sherman K. Maka, hanai brother Ed Hayes, nieces Kyra Maka, Liana Maka, Ashlee Bond and Mohala Bond, nephew Jacob (Sierra) Bond, grand-nieces Kulani Maka-Adric, Naia Maka-Adric, Kaui Maka-Adric, Keha Laughead-Maka, Leina‘ala Maka-Adric, Kila Maka-Adric, Kayzia Lorenzana-Maka, Kairah Lorenzana-Maka, Xia Maka-Bond and Lyrical Nago, grand-nephews Murphy Maka Jr., Konane Maka and Ashton Wada.

Antonio Almasan Cabanes
Antonio Almasan Cabanes, 88, passed away on Jan. 7, 2020 at Wilcox Medical Center. He was born on Jan. 17, 1931, in Pilar, Abra, Philippines.
He was a seed cutter and watchman at Olokele Sugar Company.
He was preceded in death by parents Simpilicio and Anastasia Cabanes and adoptive parents Mariano and Susana Camangyan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Barbara Cabanes, sons Simplicio Tito (Nami) Cabanes of Hanapepe and Billy Cabanes of Eleele, daughter Anabel (Moises) Lopez San Juan of Eleele, grandchildren Aisha and Akito Cabanes and Alex Lopez, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Lihue Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 3100 Akahi St. on Saturday, Jan. 18, with visitation from 2 to 3 p.m. and memorial services at 3 p.m., with refreshments to follow.

Oscar Agpalza passed away on Jan. 3, 2020, at Wilcox Medical Center, at the age of 68.
He was born on June 4, 1951, in the Philippines, and was a utility worker for the Lihue Airport restaurant.
He is survived by wife Natividad “Nati” Agpalza of Lihue, daughters Geraldine (Dennis) Campos of Eleele, Eunice (Joel) Tambio of the Philippines, Yedah (Albert) Villanueva of the Philippines and Gedidah (Reynald) Sagsagat of the Phillppines, four grandchildren, brothers Florendo (Cresencia) Agpalza of the Philippines, Rogelio (Matilde) Agpalza of Honolulu and Joel (Lorna) Agpalza of Honolulu, sisters Nancy Asuncion of the Philippines, Delelah Holmedad of Norway, and Estrella (Swerre) Sandberg of Norway, and by numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are on Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Lihue Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. and celebration of life at 2 p.m.
