LIHUE — The proposed amendments to the rules and regulations for Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall were passed to the Mayor’s Office for consideration.
Three people attended Friday’s brief public hearing that was led by county Department of Parks and Recreation Director Patrick Porter.
“I came today to hear the new proposed rules because we use that space. We use it every year,” said Erin Gaines, Hawaii Children’s Theatre administrator.
When asked if there were major changes in the proposed rules and regulations, Porter said “no.”
“This round was to allow the state and the county to make use of this facility. But we will be addressing this again. We are going to look at all of the fees within the next two years,” he said.
The Department of Parks and Recreation proposes to amend its existing rules and regulations for KWMCH by:
• Updating the legal limit of occupancy of the concert theater;
• Amending rates for certain users to allow state and county agencies to use KWMCH at no charge;
• Minor, non-substantive changes in formatting and language;
• Authorizing the director of parks and recreation or designee to waive fees.
The current rules have not been updated since 1996.
Lenny Rapozo, KWMCH manager, said people should see him if they need more information.
“This will help the director get nonprofits and other organizations from the community into our doors,” he said.
